I have been a Dental hygienist since 1994....I collapsed at work...Just want to tell you all that in school we are told(or brain washed) that amalgams are perfectly safe...and actually better than composite(white) fillings...we are told that they are stronger and last longer, and safe.....!!!!I believed it until I collaped at work!!!I am so angry......And my boss still doesn't believe that I have mercury poisoning!! He's in denial...Now since I've been sick, the other dentist that I work with got tested...and had very high amounts in her blood stream....which is crazy...because it rarely shows up in blood...but she doesn't feel deathly sick, so she is not doing anything about it....also the other girls at work want to get tested...but their doctors are giving them a hard time......A girl I work with has migraines all the time...and my boss is very moody and crazy at times(mercury???) and other staff members have different health issues........I guess until they collapse...nothing will be done...Thanks Sandra P <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Wow Sandra. What a shame it is that they are ignoring this. People are sometimes so stubborn to see what's right in front of them... and how they suffer for it. You have a right to be angry. Using mercury in dental fillings is not only stupid, is criminal. There is no excuse whatsoever for accepting the idea of using such a well-known and potent toxin in the human body. It is well-known what mercury does to the body and to human lives. Mercury was removed from dentistry several times previously in the U.S. only to be reinstated by a group of thugs that have no conscience and actually profit from the patents they hold on their manufacture. The info about this is in this book: It's All In Your Head by Dr. Hal HugginsGood for you that you're mad and that you're doing something about it. I wish more people had your passion about this. Keep us posted.

That is terrible, Sandra. If you wish to remain in dentistry, is there any way you could move to work for a mercury free dentist? They are growing in number.
It was on the radio only today that in Britain, dentists have the highest suicide rate. Considering mercury causes depression, that is hardly surprising! But they just said it's because it's a depressing job.

I'm too ill to work at the moment...I've been sick over a year now...I hope to recover form this mercury illness, and work again...of course for a biological dentist...mercury free....I am going to write a letter to my prof. association..and talk to someone there...to let them know How sick I've become....Sandra P

Good fo you, Sandra! Let us know how you get on. More people need to be aware of the dangers of amalgam.
I'm not well enough to work at the moment either, at least not more than part-time and I think that would be an effort. I am tired all the time and get very anxious when I am working that it causes problems. Luckily I make a little money working from home.

Dear Sandra, I too am mercury poisoned. I use to have friend who was a dental nurse, she had problems becoming pregnant. In the end she went to a doctor in Harley St. She was then given the dreadful news that she had cancer of the lymphatic system and unfortunately died soon after. I often wonder now about her involvement withe Mercury. She was only in her twenties. This is going back about twenty years and maybe things were not so tightly controlled then. I don't know, but it makes you think.
