Hi Brett,
This seems typical of mercury poisoning. The changeable symptoms, the improvements and then the "regressions". It does show that chelation has helped you with symptoms as it was picking up mercury. So that in itself shows what the problem is. But chelation is not actually often recommended to use whilst one still has amalgams.
I'm happy to hear that you're on your way to having them safely removed. That way you will be able to really start chelating the mercury out of your tissues and organs.
I have found diet (removing sugar/gluten/yeast), supplements (antioxidants mainly) and moderate exercise to be a help in supporting my body and aiding the process of natural detoxification. However, I believe that proper chelation is necessary to get the deeper stored mercury and I would recommend the Andrew Hall Cutler protocol to you as one I believe works well and works safely.
I'd recommend you start by reading through this link here:
Informative posts by Andy Cutler Here are some testimonies by those who have and are using his protocol. Just an example:
Cutler protocol testimonies His book "Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment" was a godsend to me. I would recommend this book if you can afford it. But otherwise, the link above does at least give it in a nutshell and you can gain alot of help and answers from people on here who are familiar with it.
I am not familiar with butter doing what you said, but I have heard it is a very healthy "food" (fat) and one in which Hal Huggins recommends for mercury toxicity. Perhaps it is protective too. Though he believes that it can help with mercury and is a natural gentle chelator in itself. It contains vitamin A and D naturally and I believe "selenium" (which is usually depleted in those with mercury). But he also recommends that plus enough proteins in meat and eggs and general animal fat contained already on meat. That has been on help to me to get more of this in my own diet.
Protection during amalgam removal is vital. An alternative breathing source, eye goggles, rubber dam, etc (the more protection the better) are what should be in place! Do NOT take strong antioxidants (like vitamin C) on the day of and from the night before the amalgam removal. As it can erase much of the effects of the anaesthetic apparently. You can of course start taking them again following the removal. Just be aware that they can make anaesthetic less effective! So you may want to quit taking any 24-48 before the dental procedure. I would not get too many removed in one session either (personally). Mercury vapor is released during removal and the exposure is unavoidable. Though it can be "lessened" it is probably not a good idea to get too many done at once. I'd say 2 at the most and then leave yourself enough time inbetween visits to recuperate. That's just a suggestion.
Symptoms of mercury will return until enough deeply stored organ mercury has been chelated out properly. Because it continues to leak out as long it's there. So even if a person gets to a point of "feeling" better, they may still have significant mercury present and often find the symptoms return again. This also happens during the process of detoxification. Ups and downs are typical.
I can't comment much on EDTA as far as mercury goes, as I am not familiar enough with it. But it appears it has been helpful for you! I am only familiar with the mercury chelators DMSA, and ALA. The protocol is very important in how these products are used and when they are taken. That makes a HUGE difference! If they're taken randomly? The movement of mercury can be wild and make symptoms at times, (for me at least) intolerable. It not necessary to put up with symptoms that are so intense that they make you feel like you're going insane. This is why Cutler's was the best protocol for me to use.
