Hi there, The only protocol I feel comfortable with recommending personally is the Andrew Hall Cutler protocol. I believe there is a risk to anything when it comes to moving/chelating mercury for obvious reasons. Mercury can easily be bounced around and moved into worse and more sensitive areas and it is too easy to do this. Some people have stronger and better functioning elimination than others. Those like myself? It has proven disastrous and dangerous. I tried many ways of trying to get the mercury out of myself and put myself through alot of hell in the process. I stumbled finally on the Cutler protocol and was able to make headway without nearly going insane from symptoms. It is never easy to get mercury out and it's expected that some symptoms will appear. But it is not necessary for a person to push themselves over the edge to achieve something, when there is a sound protocol, tried and tested that has been proven to work well and work more safely. I'd like to share a couple of links with you here that you may find informative: The first is some information about mercury, the cutler protocol, and questions/answers regarding many aspects of mercury poisoning, supplementation, reasons for chelating the way he's recommended etc. Index to posts by Andy Cutler Here is an example of testimonies by those who have used his protocol: http://orbisvitae.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=251054&site_id=1There are so many protocols out there and so many different products used for detoxing mercury. But this is the only one (so far) that I have used that actually helped me make more progress and keep my symptoms somewhat tolerable and sane in the process.

Hi Bex thanks for those links I will read them thoroughly, although it might take a while I'm a very slow reader. If I have any questions I'll be sure to come back Thanks

I have to second the Cutler protocol. I tried many other things the first two years after getting my amalgams replaced, and got worse in a number of ways. After doing the Cutler protocol for most of 2009 I am feeling improved in many ways.
You can keep doing yoga, it won't hurt...just listen to your body and don't overdo it with any exercise.
That is the correct ALA in the link, but you would have to split up the dosage to start, which isn't always easy. 12.5mg or 25mg would be an ok place to start, and you may adjust it based on how you handle that dose.
Also, if you just had any mercury fillings replaced, you have to wait 3 months before safely starting ALA. You can start DMSA a few days after mercury amalgam removal.
I know it might seem like a pain in the butt to have to wake up to take ALA & DMSA in the middle of the night, but it really is important and it does make a big difference.

I found exercise to be helpful to me in the respect it began to shift toxins - stored toxins in fat etc. I couldn't overdo things though because exercise can mobilise alot of toxins. Walking was probably the best for me. I got very good results from using a treadmill. I haven't tried yoga.
As Gdawson said, the ALA is fine. But you will need to split the capsules to get a much smaller dose than that. And yes, it should only be started if you are 3 months post amalgam remval and any other recent mercury exposure. It then needs to be taken every 3 hours around the clock. You need an alarm clock and make sure you wake up and take the nightly doses. This needs to be done for about 3 or so days in a row. Then you take 3 days or more off as a break. Repeat the cycle until you have chelated the mercury. This can take a LONG time. It is wise also to keep chelating even after you "feel" well again, because there comes a time when the ALA can be keeping a person feeling well, but there may still be significant mercury left. Some stop chelation too early because they feel better and think it means they're detoxed. They soon discover that the still remaining mercury starts making them feel ill again. So they often have to start chelating again to get the rest.
If you have had recent amalgam removal or mercury exposure, it would be wise to start with DMSA (if it helps). You can take that every 4 hours instead of every 3 hours. Though some may take it every 3 hours if it helps with symptoms more.
Same routine as with ALA. You can of course adjust the amount of time you spend on DMSA. E.g. it does not have to be 3 days. You could go for a week if you wanted to. But that can be heavy going for many people. Or you could go for 5 days etc. You then take as many days off as you had on (or more if necessary). Again, repeat the cycle. You do this for approximately 3 months or so.
It is necessary to clear the extracellular mercury (mercury on the outside of cells) first (e.g. with DMSA), before you start using the brain/organ chelator ALA. Because it ensures that you have first cleared those areas, so ALA will not take any of that mercury up with it into the brain. Because ALA is able to go past the blood brain barrier, which is why it is used to chelate brain (and organ) mercury. DMSA is not so efficient at doing this and is best to use early on to clear the more accessible stores of mercury first.
ALA is essential. DMSA is not. But DMSA can make the early stages of lowering blood levels of mercury easier/faster and more efficient. You do not HAVE to use DMSA. You can simply wait out the first 3 months following amalgam removal as the blood levels will lower naturally.
Then you can simply use ALA alone if you wish. But some people find DMSA a great help. And not only use it to lower the blood levels in the early stages, but as a help with symptoms. It can also be used when one starts ALA. They can be used together if it helps a person with symptoms. It may also increase excretion of mercury when both are used together and make life easier. But again, DMSA is not essential.
In fact, I was surprised at how powerful and effective DMSA actually was with removing mercury! If it is used the right way.

Hi there,
Neither could I!!! What helped me? Vitamin C (if you can get powder form with bioflavanoids that would be very good). Vitamin E and selenium. But some react to selenium quite strongly, so be careful with that one. The form "Selenomethione" appears to be better tolerated. But Cutler does not seem to think that selenium is absolutely necessary. You can get selenium from your diet and brazil nuts are apparently one of the richest source of selenium. So much so, one should be careful not to overeat them!
But certainly a good quality vitamin C powder and vitamin E alone were very helpful in themselves, as was a mercury free fish oil.
I was also on a good sugar free, wheat/gluten/yeast free diet. This was essential for me. It also enabled my body to be healthier and absorb more nutrients.
Antioxidants are VERY important because mercury uses them up and it's very stressful on the body.
B complex, zinc, magnesium, Fish oil (mercury free), iodine, etc are also important as mercury uses them up/displaces them. But I don't want to break your wallet! Only get that which you are able to afford.
Do not stress yourself out by trying to get everything. See what you can make up in your diet. You may even find a really good quality multivitamin/mineral with alot in it. There is one here in New Zealand that has alot contained in it as a powder. Splitting the doses up and taking them 3 or 4 times can be more helpful apparently. Because again, mercury uses them up. This is why Cutler mentions particular vitamins need to be taken more often.
The diet is foundational to everything else anyway. A good all round diet including plenty of vitamins/minerals/proteins/fats. Fruits, vegetables, raw nuts/seeds, plain acidophilus yoghurt, meat/eggs, etc butter, extra virgin olive oil, etc. Animal fats and protein is very good and important in mercury poisoning. You might want to look up Dr Weston price and take a look at his studies around the world in regards to diet.
I'm sorry I can't be exact on all this. For me it was mainly diet, basic antioxidants, and chelation that helped.

Skip the EDTA. Oral EDTA is very poorly absorbed, and will block absorption of necessary minerals. Most who have mercury toxicity are deficient in necessary minerals. Use ALA and DMSA for chelation. Take mineral and vitamin supplements.
