"ALA might be great for some and it's proven for some as Cutler says, but what about the others? What if they don't tolerate Sulfur at all? Then that might be the better route. Think for a second about those things JK. "
I have used plenty of curry sauce which has cilantro for years. I didn't realize until recently that it has cilantro in it. I guess cilantro is okay to use in moderation, especially if one is taking DMSA with it. Have you explored the reason you are so sensitive to sulphur(could it be a molybdenum deficiency?) I do better on a high sulphur diet. It seems like the body needs plenty of suphur to detoxify itself.
I had plenty of problems taking ALA alone, but with DMSA I have much less severe side effects. While DMSA is expensive, it is worth the price. A year ago I had such strong reactions to even 25 mg doses of ALA, and now I am using 150 mg doses(together with 50 mg of DMSA).
"I see what you are saying all in all, but seriously if it works well for Stuart and me when I took it then it must do some great things."
Perhaps, although I haven't heard of anyone getting well just using cilantro. I wonder how much research is going into finding the molecule or molecules in cilantro that chelate heavy metals, and in being able to synthesize it. Any Cutler's post about it seems hopeful for the future, but unsure about its use now. I guess the worry is about redistribution of mercury when using cilantro.
" Nobody knows how to correctly use it though nor is there a book written on it, I can see being toxic why that concerns you. "
The active ingredient might vary greatly, and without having it isolated and standardized, one would have no idea about the half life of the molecule and how often to take it, or how much to take. One also doesn't know how great the redistribution risk is. I guess if one takes it together with DMSA there is much less worry about redistribution. I guess I would feel safe enough using cilantro together with DMSA, but would be afraid to use it without DMSA. Based on my experiences of using ALA without DMSA, I would suggest that people should if at all possible take ALA together with DMSA.
