Sure, I don't doubt the greatness of ALA, but in the article I read they mentioned the name of the constituents that mobilized the mercury. I don't remember what they are called, but it said ALA can remove deep tissue mercury stores... Great.
The article specifically described a chemical reaction that expels mercury from these stores, not chelates, so a chelator had to be used simutaneously.
If ALA does just as well of a job, then that's good news. I hope it's true. I just rarely accept anyone's opinion until there is something to back it up.
Strange coming from a conspiratorialist, huh?
Cutler is a very smart guy, no doubt, and his book is excellent and very readable, a great work indeed. He has lots of letters after his name and is very well educated, nevertheless, I'm a skeptic to the core.
For example, even after over a year of hard, documented, published, reviewed, evidence had been steadily passed before me, I refused to believe that the nightly news intentionally lies on a regular basis.
It wasn't until I finally saw them lie about an event that I personally knew about that I began to explore the possibility, and in this lie, there was no way they could claim evidence. None whatsoever.
So, I remain skeptical and resistant about degrading the perceived value of cilantro until we know that ALA can do the same job.
I do appreciate you testing/challenging me as I want information here to be accurate or, if opinion, obvious as such.

I just did a quick search and here's what I found:Omura determined that cilantro could mobilize mercury and other toxic metals rapidly from the CNS.96 97Cilantro mobilizes mercury, aluminum, lead and tin stored in the brain and in the spinal cord and moves it into the connective tissues. The mobilized mercury appears to be either excreted via the stool, the urine, or translocated into more peripheral tissues.
The mechanism of action is unknown. Cilantro alone often does not remove mercury from the body; it often only displaces the metals form intracellularly or from deeper body stores to more superficial structures, from where it can be easier removed with the previously described agents. The use of cilantro with DMSA or DMPS has produced an increase in motor nerve function.98

This may be an artifact related to the fact that it does permeate connective tissue.
Nevertheless, I hope I can find this info in the future and post it here. I do remember the specifics of the article (cilantro moving mercury from connective tissue by a chemical reaction) and that it had credibility because it was referenced to an actual study.
Hopefully these links will provide useful information for some seeking information.
Thanks.
