Hi,

Im new to this forum. i browsed through the curezone amalgam replacement forum and posted a few times but no body every responded to any questions i had so i will try here.

basically i am having my amalgams removed by the end of july and want to know what supplements are best to take to get rid of the mercury from the body.

i don't want to take DMSA or DMPS (I think tahts what its called). I would rather take ALA and cholerlla but i know that some cholerlla contains mercury. which brand have people had success with which is mercury free?

also is ALA a good supplement to take to get rid of the mercury from the body. finally has anybody had any luck with a product called HMD (Heavy Metal Detox) iv read some reviews for it which are good but might just be some sales people trying to make a quick sale. sorry if the questions are dumb im new to this. thank-you in advance.

blessings,
Tia

Hello Tia. Glad you made it here. I was initially reluctant to take DMSA and tried to chelate using ALA alone. After a few weeks though I crashed hard. I tried again, and could not tolerate the side effects of ALA alone. A few months later I tried chelating using ALA plus DMSA and had much less severe side effects. I have been chelating for 4 months using ALA+ DMSA. My advice to you is to reconsider and think about using DMSA + ALA. DMPS is imo much too toxic and should not be used. DMSA is quite safe, however it can be expensive, and in some countries it might not be available.

How many amalgams do you have? I had 25! Yes, 25! It took me around a year to get them all replaced.

There are some things you can do now before your amalgams are replaced. The first thing I recommend is parasite cleanse if you have not done one within the past several months. There are other herbs that you can use that may help. I have posted about a number of these.

Hello Tia and welcome.

About two-thirds down on this page is a section called mercury detox. It goes into detail about detox methods. I think it will help:

http://orbisvitae.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=45573#Post45573

Detox is more of an art than science because you have to constantly monitor your body and see if you're mobilizing too much mercury or not.

I originally used Sun brand chlorella when I detoxed years ago. It's also important to take Vitamin C and E, and Algin for protection during detox.

ALA is good, but you have to start with very small amounts.

Many people are having good long-term success with oral DMSA, but the FDA is pulling it from the market, so if you change your mind about it, it would need to be soon.

also is ALA a good supplement to take to get rid of the mercury from the body.

ALA is great for detoxing the brain, but again, start very slow. And be sure to read the article linked to above for details about ALA.

finally has anybody had any luck with a product called HMD

HMD is an excellent product, but it's very strong. It's so strong that it can make you feel bad when used on very mercury toxic people.

If you decide to use it, I would also add additional Algin. It does contain some, but I think more it necessary.

Glad to help and let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank-you so much. I was feeling abit lost there for a moment. I 4 mercury fillings. one is in a root canal tooth which i an going try and get pulled because i ahve problems with it since i was 16 (am now 24). it's so nice to talk to people who know what your going through and don't just think your insane.

Russ have you personally tried HMD. thats what the reviews said to start very slow. do you know if it actually binds with the mercury or just moves it somewhere else in the body im sure there is a proper term for that but can't remember it at the moment.

thank-you once again.

blessings,
Tia

Tia, you are lucky that you are taking care of this at 24. I am almost 50 and started to do something about my amalgams only around 30 months ago.

What are you planning to do about the tooth you want pulled? Are you considering an implant? I have heard some people say that they had a root canaled tooth repaired again rather than having it pulled. While many talk about how bad it is to have root canaled teeth, the alternatives(implants or bridges) might be even more problematic. I have two root canaled teeth.

No. I am very familiar with what's in it though.

It can help but will probably make you feel worse initially, which is why I would also add Algin to prevent reabsorption, and Vitamin C and E for protection.

DMSA is an excellent chelator, if used properly. It is the chelator I would recommend post amalgam removal to bring the blood levels of mercury down. But I would only recommend that it be used according to Cutler's protocol (every 4 hours around the clock). 3 days on, 3-4 days off. Or near enough. Some may even wish to do one week on, one week off. As long as you do 3 days or more (no longer than a week) and take as many, if not more days off as a break. Repeat this cycle until levels have been reduced.

Chlorella can certainly mobilise mercury, but I would not call this a chelating agent in itself. Some feel better with chlorella and do well, others can find it the opposite. Certainly for me? It was unpredictable. I found that it certainly did move mercury, but I did not find it successful in chelating/removing it and often found myself suffering for months after using it. Even though I had a pure source of it. But then again, I reacted strongly to all sulfur foods/supplements (which is quite typical when one is high in mercury).

I discovered that just because something is natural, does not necessarily mean it is safe to use with mercury. The manner in which mercury is moved around/out of the body is one of the most important things to consider. I was made very ill by random methods/products of "mercury detox". Until I discovered Andy Cutler's protocol. I would suggest you look into it. You may want to really familiarize yourself with the information on this link here: Informative posts by Andy Cutler

Yes, ALA is an excellent chelator for mercury, but only when it is used in the right way, at the right time, or it may potentially be HIGHLY risky. It chelates organ/brain mercury. It must not be used with amalgams still in place, and it should only be used when blood levels of mercury have been reduced (which takes about 3 months or so AFTER amalgams have been removed, which you can do with the help of DMSA).

The reason it's risky to use ALA too early or in the wrong manner is because ALA is able to cross the blood brain barrier (which is why it's great for brain mercury). The problem is, if you use it when your blood levels of mercury are still high, you risk it transporting more mercury with it across the blood brain barrier. Thereby increasing brain mercury.

It should be used approximately 3 months post amalgam removal. And used according to Cutler's protocol (every 3 hours around the clock). This is just my personal recommendation, based on my own experience, but also viewing the testimonies of others. Which you can check out here.

Hi there

I have used HMD which is a solution of Cilantro and Chlorella. It works but the doses provided on the bottle are insane. They recommend 50 drops x3 a day is immense. I use HMD x3 a week at 5 drops a day and i can feel it making a difference. It's expensive but you will only ever need one bottle. I've had mine 9 months and still have 3/4 of it left. As Russ recommended use something like algin or Chlorella with it to mop up the released metals. If you choose to use Chlorella get it from Dr Mercola's website as it's the best type. No mercury contamination and easily digestible and very affordable.

hi stuart,

thanks for the response. what symptons did you have post amalgam removal/chelation? have any of them improved?

Yeah I have read those can be almost as bad as Mercury in the tooth, so you kill two birds with one stone as far as that tooth goes. Hard to believe that one tooth can be messing you up that much with the canal and the Mercury (They double whamied you on one tooth) but thats reality.

I've read good information (based on studies) that says cilantro causes a reaction in tendons, ligaments, etc., that cause these "deep" (hard to get at) tissue stores to expel mercury, so it is very useful and effective. The only problem is that you have to have a chelator present to capture the free mercury in the lymphatic system or blood so it does not get redistributed, and of course, as always, algin.

I think I have the info saved somewhere.

After amalgam removal i felt like my head was swelling up and i started sweating like crazy. I had mine removed with no real protocol and damn did i pay for it. However it was a tetanus vaccine that really almost finished me off for good. for love the of god don't ever get vaccinated.

My worst symptom is my electrical sensitivity. I am massively affected my phone masts, wireless networks etc. I'm having to leave my apartment because it's too close to phone masts...i can feel it affecting me. Like tingling all over. Obviously its the mercury in my blood reacting with the radiowaves.

Stuart, are you taking plenty of magnesium, and a good form of vitamin B12? Deficiencies of these may cause the tingling you describe. Vitamin B12 is very hard to absorb. Have you tried making the vitamin b12 into a paste, and putting it in your nose? It is relatively well absorbed there. Some people even go for vitamin b12 injections. Also make sure to take zinc supplements.

Mercola had a good article on cilantro that was based on medical research.

It said that cilantro -- through a chemical reaction -- expels mercury from "deep" tissue stores, like tendons and ligaments. Then, you need a chelator present to bind to the mercury and carry it away.

I honestly have never heard that ALA works on these deep tissue stores.

Does it?

"I honestly have never heard that ALA works on these deep tissue stores."

I would assume that it does, as it is both water and fat soluble, and even crosses the blood/brain barrier. ALA is said to do a good job of removing mercury from the nervous system. Cilantro is a big unknown. While it has some chelating ability, they still haven't isolated the compound or compounds in it that chelates mercury. Perhaps once they do so, the compound can be studied and compared to ALA and other chelators. Then this compound might become available separately in a standarddized form, and a reasonable dosing schedule can be determined.

Yeah we know what Cutler says about it, I have read other stuff on it as well and how good it is. I took it and only felt better, Candida went down and it did not scare me at all (For three weeks). I should have stayed on Cilantro as it did work for me it seemed and I was not freaked out at all like Sulfur things that made me worse and yeast worse.

ALA might be great for some and it's proven for some as Cutler says, but what about the others? What if they don't tolerate Sulfur at all? Then that might be the better route. Think for a second about those things JK.

I read Parsley and Cilantro etc., both of those can do well for you. Have you ever tried it or just went by what Cutler says when he says we don't know how it really works?

I see what you are saying all in all, but seriously if it works well for Stuart and me when I took it then it must do some great things. Nobody knows how to correctly use it though nor is there a book written on it, I can see being toxic why that concerns you.

If they can study it and find out just how to use it safely I feel it is the safest and best route to go, until then it's purely speculation and HOW YOU FEEL!

Sure, I don't doubt the greatness of ALA, but in the article I read they mentioned the name of the constituents that mobilized the mercury. I don't remember what they are called, but it said ALA can remove deep tissue mercury stores... Great.

The article specifically described a chemical reaction that expels mercury from these stores, not chelates, so a chelator had to be used simutaneously.

If ALA does just as well of a job, then that's good news. I hope it's true. I just rarely accept anyone's opinion until there is something to back it up.

Strange coming from a conspiratorialist, huh?

Cutler is a very smart guy, no doubt, and his book is excellent and very readable, a great work indeed. He has lots of letters after his name and is very well educated, nevertheless, I'm a skeptic to the core.

For example, even after over a year of hard, documented, published, reviewed, evidence had been steadily passed before me, I refused to believe that the nightly news intentionally lies on a regular basis.

It wasn't until I finally saw them lie about an event that I personally knew about that I began to explore the possibility, and in this lie, there was no way they could claim evidence. None whatsoever.

So, I remain skeptical and resistant about degrading the perceived value of cilantro until we know that ALA can do the same job.

I do appreciate you testing/challenging me as I want information here to be accurate or, if opinion, obvious as such.

---

I just did a quick search and here's what I found:

Omura determined that cilantro could mobilize mercury and other toxic metals rapidly from the CNS.96 97

Cilantro mobilizes mercury, aluminum, lead and tin stored in the brain and in the spinal cord and moves it into the connective tissues. The mobilized mercury appears to be either excreted via the stool, the urine, or translocated into more peripheral tissues.

The mechanism of action is unknown. Cilantro alone often does not remove mercury from the body; it often only displaces the metals form intracellularly or from deeper body stores to more superficial structures, from where it can be easier removed with the previously described agents. The use of cilantro with DMSA or DMPS has produced an increase in motor nerve function.98

Source: http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/mercury_elimination.htm

Cilantro will help mobilize mercury out of the tissue so the DMPS can attach to it and allow it to be excreted from the body.

Source: http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/detox_protocol.htm

http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2006/02/19/cilantro_chelation_that_can_save_your_life.htm

Well, after this search, I still didn't find the exact information about cilantro mobilizing mercury out of connective tissue, but one article above (Mercola) states that it does move mercury from CNS components into connective tissue. This may be an artifact related to the fact that it does permeate connective tissue.

Nevertheless, I hope I can find this info in the future and post it here. I do remember the specifics of the article (cilantro moving mercury from connective tissue by a chemical reaction) and that it had credibility because it was referenced to an actual study.

Hopefully these links will provide useful information for some seeking information.

Thanks.

"ALA might be great for some and it's proven for some as Cutler says, but what about the others? What if they don't tolerate Sulfur at all? Then that might be the better route. Think for a second about those things JK. "

I have used plenty of curry sauce which has cilantro for years. I didn't realize until recently that it has cilantro in it. I guess cilantro is okay to use in moderation, especially if one is taking DMSA with it. Have you explored the reason you are so sensitive to sulphur(could it be a molybdenum deficiency?)
I do better on a high sulphur diet. It seems like the body needs plenty of suphur to detoxify itself.

I had plenty of problems taking ALA alone, but with DMSA I have much less severe side effects. While DMSA is expensive, it is worth the price. A year ago I had such strong reactions to even 25 mg doses of ALA, and now I am using 150 mg doses(together with 50 mg of DMSA).

"I see what you are saying all in all, but seriously if it works well for Stuart and me when I took it then it must do some great things."

Perhaps, although I haven't heard of anyone getting well just using cilantro. I wonder how much research is going into finding the molecule or molecules in cilantro that chelate heavy metals, and in being able to synthesize it. Any Cutler's post about it seems hopeful for the future, but unsure about its use now. I guess the worry is about redistribution of mercury when using cilantro.

" Nobody knows how to correctly use it though nor is there a book written on it, I can see being toxic why that concerns you.
"

The active ingredient might vary greatly, and without having it isolated and standardized, one would have no idea about the half life of the molecule and how often to take it, or how much to take. One also doesn't know how great the redistribution risk is. I guess if one takes it together with DMSA there is much less worry about redistribution. I guess I would feel safe enough using cilantro
together with DMSA, but would be afraid to use it without DMSA.
Based on my experiences of using ALA without DMSA, I would suggest that people should if at all possible take ALA together with DMSA.

I used it without DMSA and felt fine, Candida went down as well. I would not fear taking it without DMSA, infact I would take apple pectin or Algin with it to trap the mercury before it goes all over from that.

I took Chlorella and that together, well I did well on just those alone, better than anything since (Sulfur). I guess I shoudl try it again soon and tell some about what I feel? Infact I would be glad to! Some are scared of so much in here they think about it ahead of time and fear it! They fix their mind before things.

I have felt bad off alot of things which mainly contain sulfur, ALA does contain that right? I did well on Chlorella so thats very weird! I did better fighting CANDIDA than any of these thigns in my whoe life though, why was that? Could getting rid of knocking down Candida be the key in alot of ways? If so then why?

Some don't seek the whole but just try one thing, I feel Candida getting down is the best method but thats just me! I know it's hard to cure, but am I onto something there? Not many have cured themselves in here and thats proven from posts, not many at all really feel better.

JK I love your posts all the time, but seriously can you get off the just ALA and other things and research and get into other parts as all? If I feel better very soon will you believe me or listen? ALA is just one part, what if they are not really that mercury toxic as you said? Then what?

Candida did well for me, I felt so damn good when I knocked that down I was a new man, otherwise when it flairs up I am bad (Which is mainly from diet or whatever). Mercury is horrible yes, but for what if they are not that toxic?

Fiber helps to prevent bile from being recyled, so that mercury excreted in the bile has less of a chance being absorbed. The big question is how well cilantro causes mercury excretion, which I guess would be almost all through the bile. DMSA causes most of its mercury excretion via the urine, so there isn't a chance of reabsorption via the urine.

"I have felt bad off alot of things which mainly contain sulfur, ALA does contain that right?"

Yes. Both ALA and DMSA are sulphur based. I wonder if the chelating compound in cilantro is also sulpur based, although reaction to different sulphur compunds can vary.

I am not saying that cilantro is bad, far from it. In fact cilantro has been shown to be antimicrobial, and some of the antimicrobial compounds in it have been identified. I am worried about possible redistribution of mercury by cilantro though. As I already said, using cilantro with DMSA seems to make sense, but using it withought DMSA might cause plenty of redistribution of mercury. We just don't know.

"The mechanism of action is unknown. Cilantro alone often does not remove mercury from the body; it often only displaces the metals form intracellularly or from deeper body stores to more superficial structures, from where it can be easier removed with the previously described agents. The use of cilantro with DMSA or DMPS has produced an increase in motor nerve function.98"

http://www.mercola.com/article/mercury/mercury_elimination.htm

In the same article.

"Adequate sulfur stores are necessary to facilitate mercury's binding to sulfhydryl groups.

Many individual's sulfur stores are greatly depleted which impairs sulfur containing chelating or complexing agents, such as DMPS or DMSA, effectiveness as they are metabolized and utilized as a source of sulfur. Sulfur containing natural substances, like garlic99 100 and MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) may also serve as an effective agent to supply organic sulfur for detoxification.101 Fresh garlic is preferred as it has many other recently documented benefits.102 103 104 The garlic is consumed just below the threshold of social unacceptability, which is typically 1-2 cloves per day."

Cilantro is low in thoils (However you spell it). It is not the sulfur I read really as meat has alot, it's more of how much or if it contails thiols. I believe Turmeric is very good at raising thiols, which is why I react to it.

I don't now how Cilantro works really though, I know it did not bother me that much like some other things I took (Kelp seems to get me bad, the powder). I react to certain things and do well on others, guess I have to listen to my body.

Thiols in turmeric? I doubt it. No one claims that turmeric chelates heavy metals. Turmeric increases bile flow, which helps detoxify the liver. Turmeric also kill parasites. Perhaps a strong reaction to turmeric might mean that your gall bladder isn't working so well, you might have a parasite problem, or the stimulation of the gall bladder is causing many toxins to be released into the bile, but that your body is reabsorbing the toxins? I guess it is a good idea to eat extra soluble fiber when one is taking turmeric. Many here have had parasites.

Toxins in the liver released through the intestines must go through the bile. Fiber helps trap bile so it isn't recycled. That is why it is important to eat plenty of soluble fiber while chelating. While DMSA cause most of the mercury it chelates to be released via the urine, ALA causes mercury to be released via the bile. The worst thing is to be constipated while chelating. Since bile is so important for detoxification, and fat stimulates biles production, it helps explain why some on a low fat diet do so poorly. Perhaps a good strategy is to eat some nuts or other vegetable fat together with foods that have soluble fiber.

"Sure, I don't doubt the greatness of ALA, but in the article I read they mentioned the name of the constituents that mobilized the mercury. I don't remember what they are called, but it said ALA can remove deep tissue mercury stores... Great.

The article specifically described a chemical reaction that expels mercury from these stores, not chelates, so a chelator had to be used simutaneously.

If ALA does just as well of a job, then that's good news."

ALA is a well known molecule though, so the real question is whether the active compound in coriander works better or worse than ALA. After the chelating compound in cilantro is isolated and tested, then we will have some answers.
Taking ALA is like taking vitamin c. Taking cilantro is like eating an orange. When you eat an orange, you don't just get vitamin c, and the amount of vitamin c present varies from orange to orange.

Read this here.Supplements high in sulfur/thiol groups
ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid or Thioctic Acid). Obviously this needs to be used for chelation purposes at some point, whether you are sulfur intolerant or not, but it MUST always be used properly, according to its half-life, as described in Andy Cutler's oral chelation protocol. If you are sulfur-sensitive, you may only to tolerate small amounts of ALA, so start low just in case. This is not always true, but worth remembering. Also, do not take ALA during your sulfur exclusion trial.
bromelain and papain (use enzymes derived from animals)
chlorella,
cysteine
dairy source acidophilus,
DMSO,
extracts of the high sulphur foods,
glutathione,
NAC,
MSM,
Methionine (converts down into cysteine)
Turmeric is really good at raising thiol levels.

It is not high in Thiols but it is really good at raising Thiol Levels.

You might be right on the parasites though, I can feel bad or spacey (Bugged out) and weak just taking something that kills the bugs or the Candida! Reishi Mushroom even makes me feel zapped and get bad die offs (It is very good at boosting the immune system).

Maybe I get with something and just stick with it, stick through the bad days and then get the results. Cayenne was one of the ones that really bothered me, I felt really dizzy and heart skipping beats etc., maybe I am just that toxic that things like Garlic and Cayenne prove too strong for me to start out on? That might be it.

Oh yeah JK more in that article, mentions your fave or one of your faves in Molybdenum right after what I posted.

Supplements that are safe for you and are worth trying as they actually support the sulfur pathways
Molybdenum is very good at supporting the sulfur pathway and worthwhile supplementing. Dose = 500 - 1000mcg/day.

If you have elevated cysteine and you want to convert some glutathione, take 2:1 weight ratio of glutamine and glycine and your body will do the rest.

Cutler wrote all of this too.

If you think you might have parasites then you could do a proper one month parasite cleanse with a cleanse formula that has wormwood, black walnut green hull extract, cloves, and perhaps other herbs as well. Parasite cleanses were helpful for many here when they were ar their worst. Some actually saw parasites in the toilet, while other just felt better after the parasite cleanse. Initially some feel bad when starting the cleanse though.

You convinced me to try some cilantro. I am only using it during chelation rounds though, while I am taking DMSA and ALA. I just ate some cilantro.

This round I am using 62 mg DMSA, 150 mg ALA, and cilantro. I plan to take the cilantro for just the first two days of the three day round. So far it is going well.

Keep me updated on the Cilantro man, I really want to know how that works for you. I hope no negative effects as I want to use it as well.

I think the cilantro is helping. Using cilantro without DMSA might be very different than using it with DMSA though. I couldn't tolerate ALA without DMSA. but with DMSA the side effects from ALA aren't so bad. It might be the same with cilantro.

U might be onto something there man! I used it with some good clean Chlorella, so maybe it's better to use it with things like DMSA or Chlorella than ALONE? What about Algin?

You might be onto something here, Cutler says he doesn't know how it works to avoid it, but if this were the case and helps some then why not? JK keep me updated man.

Chlorella and algin aren'tsubstitutes for DMSA. DMPS might be a substitute for DMSA but it is more toxic and seems to be more expensive than DMSA. I don't think DMPS is available in the US.

The fear with cilantro is that the amount of active ingredient may vary greatly, and the half life is not known, so there is a great fear of mercury redistribution. If one takes it with a reasonable amount of DMSA, then there shouldn't be any great concern about redistribution.

Wait wait, but DMSA is good but Algin nor Pectin is not from redistribution? They prevent it from getting back into the brain and so on but DMSA is the only way? What is DMSA's contribution exactly? What does it do all in all man?

What does DMSA do fully? I am just curious? It is about to be out as Russ said, when they sell out and you can't get it anymore what do you do after that or use? What will you use?

Sorry I just had to ask those questions JK, peace man.

DMSA is great at chelating mercury and lead from the blood and having it excreted mostly through the urine.

I doubt that DMSA will ever become unavailable, however it might become prescription only in the US.

Prescription, they just want money off it then it seems! Must really work or sells alot since Big Pharma wants it.

It chelates mainly through urine correct? I thought through the colon was safer and alot easier on your kidneys? Thats what the fiber does correct? I could be wrong, but I thought that was the safer route to go when excreting things.

"It chelates mainly through urine correct? I thought through the colon was safer and alot easier on your kidneys? "

Getting rid of mercury through the colon is much more difficult though, as it is through the bile, and the body likes to recycle the bile, which might be why many often get such bad side effects due to redistribution when they use ALA without DMSA. I guess taking plenty of soluble fiber while using ALA will help trap more of the bile so it is excreted and not reabsorbed and recycled.

There is a danger that DMSA might damage the kidneys if the dosage is much too high.
