You would be able to do ALA. As long as a person is 3 months or more post amalgam removal (or other mercury exposure). You are 8 months, so you should be ok.
You can of course use DMSA beforehand if you wish to try it out alone. But DMSA is not essential. ALA (according to Andy) is. But DMSA is a good starter to reduce blood levels of mercury before adding ALA onboard.
Algin is not a chelating agent. It is not essential to get rid of mercury. It can be helpful however for some people with their symptoms.
NAC maybe helpful or it may cause problems. I'd be careful. If you want to try it, try it in very small doses. In some people it can stir up mercury far too much and make them feel very sick. Other people find it makes them feel better. Great for the liver, but I'd just be cautious and monitor your symptoms.
You may find these links of help if you're trying to locate a place that sells DMSA. Not sure how many of these still do, but it's worth a look.

http://orbisvitae.com/ubbthreads/ub...amp;Words=DMSA&Search=true#Post49263200 mg of ALA is far too much to start. You would need to split the doses up. Even quarter of that dose maybe too much when you are just beginning. Some people take as little as 12.5 mg or even less. Tablets would be alot easier for you to split up than capsules though. But try and find a way of splitting the dose so you're taking much less than that.
You can use ALA by itself or WITH DMSA. But both/either need to be used every three-four hours around the clock as you know. DMSA can be used every 4 hours, ALA is every 3 hours. If you use both together? Then DMSA will need to be taken with ALA (every 3 hours). You can extend it to every 4 overnight if you want more sleep, but only if it does not create too many symptoms. But go back to every 3 during the day.
Be careful of Coriandar! (Cilantro). It is natural and healthy, but it can apparently chelate brain mercury, so there is always a risk when you use chelating agents without a steady/tested/safe protocol. Mercury is so easily moved around anywhere and everywhere! This is why I found Cutler's to be most tolerated. But that does not mean everybody will find it the same! I go mainly by my own reactions and also testimonies from others!
Congrats by the way on getting the poison out of your teeth
