Regarding the mini-pill. Everything I have read says it contains only synthetic progesterone, which is how it differs from the combined oral contraceptive pill which contains both estrogen and progesterone. The combined pill is more effective at preventing pregnancy, but all oral contraceptives carry the risk of preventing implantation because that is the third mechanism of action - makes the womb inhospitable to the zygote.

Doctors don't generally tell women or couples this because they do not consider the zygote to be a life. Medically there is no pregnancy until implantation, but scientifically life begins at conception and many of us believe that preventing implantation is wrong. The pills should all be marketed as abortaficients aswell as contraceptives because no one will ever know which mechanism is at work.

This is my concern about using any progesterone. Obviously now I am single it doesn't matter, but in the long term, it concerns me. I've heard that the low-carb diet helps with PCOS, and I did have success with it when I went on it a couple of years ago for a month, but it's almost impossible to do as a vegan.

But I guess I should just take things one step at a time and see if my cycle improves when I've had my fillings replaced etc.
