Swine Flu Spreads in Vermont

Burlington, Vermont - June 9, 2009

The number of Vermonters with swine flu has doubled. The Vermont Health Department reports 31 confirmed cases to date-- half of them in the last several days. But no one has been hospitalized.

Many of those cases are in schools. Williston decided Tuesday to end the school year Wednesday-- two days early. They already have confirmed cases of swine flu at Allen Brook and Williston Central schools, but now District Principal Walter Nardelli tells us there are 25 more students and staff with flu-like symptoms. The Williston school district is the first in Vermont to close entire schools because of swine flu.

Students have tested positive for swine flu at UVM, CVU, Hunt Middle School, Missisquoi Valley Union School, Rutland Area Christian School, Rutland High School, and Springfield High School.
