Hi Milo,
No dental material is benign! Because they are not enamel. But the bonus is, they contain no mercury (which is the second most toxic substance known to man, as far as I'm aware). They do contain other chemicals yes and a person maybe more sensitive to certain ones than others. But the problem with mercury is, it builds up and poisons the tissues/organs of the body over time. It is an accummulative poison.
Most people get composites as replacements, because they are mercury free and more affordable than porcelain/gold. And there are plenty of people who are improving/recovering from mercury poisoning with composites.
Please do not upset yourself. I was recovering with composites in my mouth. I actually blamed them when I got much worse after my last replacement and didn't recognise that not only was this because I swallowed some of the amalgam as it was being removed (which poisoned me badly), but also, once you have no more amalgams, you can indeed feel worse as the stored mercury begins to leak back out. I thought it was my replacement materials! I was wrong I believe.
Unfortunately, mercury can also make a person more chemically sensitive. It can cause a person to become more reactive and vulnerable to other toxins/chemicals. So that can be a problem. One can be very mercury toxic and then more reactive to other chemicals at the sametime, which complicates the condition.
This is why it is VERY important to chelate. If a person is certain their replacement materials are causing reactions, then they "may" have to look at having them replaced with a more biocompatible material (that's been tested). Those with plastic/composite intolerance, may have to look at getting porcelain or gold (make sure it's pure). But again, with a mercury toxic body, it isn't difficult to be highly reactive!
Also, when one is in post removal phase , they can find they can get increased symptoms, because so often this can be due to stored mercury starting to leak back out. So one can really believe they are getting worse or reacting with their replacement materials, when this may not always be the case. This is referred to as "the second phase of suffering". I think an attempt from the body to deal with a long term stored poison! Often healing can feel worse than the original "poisoning"! Detoxing isn't easy, but it can be made easier and faster if one follows a tried/tested protocol that works for them, and doesn't make them feel unnecessarily and intolerably worse whilst it's moving/removing mercury.
PS, There are often arguments for or against composites or porcelain and it's hard to know which one to go for. Contradictions abound!
