I have been taking selenium for the past couple days (and nothing else). I had an extremely bad reaction today. I feel very dizzy and I'm in a terrible mood. I thought selenium wasn't a chelator? Do you think I could be doing damage to my body?

We normally recommend taking selenium with vitamin E. How much have you been taking per day?

Hi HammerSmoke,
Normally a mutivitamin has 100mg of Selenium in it and it is recommended not to take more then 200mg a day. So it's possible that you may have taken too much. Some multivits may have more then 100mg and others may have less.
As Russ stated it's best to take Selenium with an oil supplement.....Vit E, Co-Q-10, etc. Selenium helps the body to absorb the oil supplement.....(garlic is exempt from this rule because it supplies it's own selenium).

My multivitamin only has 29 mg of selenium.
It's possible that I depleted my glutathione levels because glutathione metabolizes selenium.

Hi, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Well......I know that Selenium facilitates the function of glutathione, so IMO, I doubt it.
It may be a lack of water, or lack of exercise or too much sugar or low quality sleep or something else that you haven't thought of yet but I don't think it's the Selenium....selenium is known as the happy supplement, when I first took it, I felt great the next day and it helps with people who have mercury.......another possbility is, if you are urinating a lot, then your Potassium may be low.
The possibilities are numerous......sorry I'm not much help!

Thanks for the help but I really don't wanna take the risk of taking selenium. It scares me.
