Listed below are Two Separate-- MIND TICKLERS : 1) What combination of 24 cent stamps - and 39 cent stamps would make exactly $3.00 (three dollars), in postage ? _______________________________________________________ 2) Which would cost less, taking two friends to the theater at the same time, or taking one friend twice? ________________________________________________________ These are real "Denis, Bex, and Scott Specials", but anybody is welcome to solve them. Have fun! Blessings, Abishag

1)
Let x be the number of 24 cent stamps Let y be the number of 39 cent stamps
Then we need to find the integer solution to the following equation 24x+39y=300
rearranging, we get y=(300-24x)/39
which is equivalent to y=(100-8x)/13
You then have to find the different integer values of x that yields an integer value for y, in this case, x=6 which yields y=4
So you need six 24 cent stamps and four 39 cent stamps.

Hmmmm, I'm not too good with puzzles Abishag. Not bad with "word puzzles" but mind ticklers? Hmmmmmm!!!! Not so great. My guess as to the theatre would be that taking one friend twice might be cheaper..... I am probably wrong of course

Hi Abishag, ((( Smiles )))
Just takeing them to the theater or actually going inside.. Or is it a buy one ticket & get one free thing.. Then it would be one friend twice then you'd get a free ticket each time.. Or am I totally off base on this one.. Again.. ((( Smiles )))

Or.. ((( Smiles )))
taking two friends to the theater at the same time or you would be paying for yourself twice.. Instead of once???
Does that make any sense???

You got it Lynn. I wonder about my ability to think and work things out. It's so obvious once somebody else has given the answer. Dear oh dear. I think I should stick to word puzzles in future

Thank you dear friends! Bex, don't feel bad, because I guessed the same thing you did at first! LOL! Yet, Lynn is correct! That's how I get messed up with the neat Riddles that dear Denis posts on here.... Like he said, "we have to think out of the box!" So, then I had to ask my honey what 'out of the box' means!!! This is so funny! We are on here to share our friendship and have fun. It's good to be able to laugh, not AT anyone, but WITH others. You never cease to amaze me, Lynn, honestly! God bless both of you, and THAT MORE ABUNDANTLY! Please don't give up, Bex. Let's LAUGH together! JESUS IS LORD! Blessings, Abishag <><

Oh... (((( Smiles ))))
So that was the right answer.. Actually my hubby came up with that one because sometimes.. I think that men are the ones that think more about how much things cost. Most dislike shoping trips it seems. They just want to get in and out and consider all the costs. Even at the box office. Yet.. I liked Bex's answer best because.. Because takeing one friend twice sounds more fun. If it's a good movie. Pass the popcorn... And just enjoy the show. I vote.. friendship and have fun. Sounds good to me!
