FFMPEG: Joining JPGs Into A MPEG4

First, rename your pictures to follow a numerical sequence. For example:
  • img1.jpg
  • img2.jpg
  • img3.jpg
Then run:

ffmpeg -f image2 -i img%d.jpg out.mpg

-f simply specifies the format. In this case, we are indicating that we are using images. The "jpg" on "img%d.jpg" indicates that the input images are JPGs.

The same method is used with dealing with any image format that you want ffmpeg top read.

%d is replaced by the image number in natural sorted order.

out.mpg specifies the output file name. The "MPG" at the end of the file names tells ffmpeg that we want to write this file in an MPG format. Note that there is not need to have a flag before this option. The output file is always specified as the last option given to ffmpeg.
