I too gave up on the medical profession. The doctors I talked to said it was nothing. One said well there's nothing he could do, and told me to get them replaced if I wanted. I never did any blood tests. I would have taken them, but I knew it'd be hell convincing people. So I just went to dentist and got my fillings replaced with white ones (no precautions -but then i'm in my mid twenties and i only had three).
It's interesting that your dentist said he wasn't really suppose to be telling you that.
Before going to an NHS dentist i went to a private dentist and they were advertising amalgam removal. It would have cost me around 180 pounds to get three taken out there though. However, the NHS dentist that treated me charged me 60 pounds a fillings, and i'm not suppose to pay anything (i'm a student)!
If I were you I'd just forget about the tests, find a dentist that'll treat you (with precautions if you've got a lot - I read about one in edinburgh if london's too far), get them replaced (possibly in stages if you've got a lot), then go on the detox programme (chlorella helps me, algin is suppose to be excellent - you could start now).
In the meantime stop drinking tap water and fish (i found they affected me a lot.)
Oh, and the part about not voting for labour. That's fine, but please change your vote for the greens and not the conservatives/whatever. Neither labour or the conservatives have done anything about amalgam fillings when they've been in power. Even our neighbours (sweden and germany) have banned them, and still our government(s) did nothing.
Let us know how you get on and good luck.
