I don't mind discussing with Egan! I do not eat meat and I DO have the energy to post here. I agree with you, Egan. We are omnivores, physically speaking, and it is perfectly okay to eat meat. But we are not "mere" physical beasts.
Somewhere along the line, we - or some of us, anyway - unlike animals, developed reason and consciousness. I don't mean the simple kind of consciousness that makes an animal aware of pain, danger, hunger, etc. - we already have that. I mean consciousness of much, much larger things - like being able to perceive the needs and suffering of others AND TO GIVE A S**T ABOUT IT. How we came to evolve this way, I don't know. Maybe it was creation, as some people say? I don't know that, either. Can't prove anything either way.
Some folks reach a point where they can no longer hide their feelings toward the suffering of food animals. Most of them who decide to become vegetarian do well on proper vegetarian nourishment.
In general, though, I have noticed that people who try to be vegetarian/vegan out of belief that vegetarianism is inherently healthier don't last that long; they seem to crave meat sooner or later. Then, like you, they are made less sick by consuming it. I don't say they feel "well" because virtually no one is truly healthy nowadays, irrespective of their diet. There is too much other stuff going on - such as trying to survive in an insane society. That in itself can make you sick. It is esential to keep in mind, too, that nowadays more and more people enter the world with consitutional weakness. This is not so easy to overcome; it takes more than diet, so much more.
So, if you want to discuss further with me, I'd welcome it and further I thank you for your lengthy and interesting post. Yes, humans are omnivorous and can be relatively healthy while eating meat, all things considered.

Animals feel pain & suffering just as we do, and they value their lives as much as we value ours.
