Almost every time I eat fruit, I am ill. I get severe rhinitis 24-36 hours after eating fruit. This is the case with apple, cranberry, orange and banana (which is technically a herb) but it still makes me sick.
If I avoid eating fruit, I don't get rhinitis. As soon as I start i.e. I ate an apple on Sunday evening and a pear yesterday, I get severe rhinitis. At the moment my nose is running and my eyes are burning. This will last about 24 hours and then I'll be fine, so long as I don't eat fruit.
About 2 years ago I told my doctor that I was getting bad reaction to fruit, but they didn't believe me and just prescribed anti-histamines.
If it's not the cleansing properties of fruit, then I must just have a genuine allergy to fruit. I'm cutting it out again. There isn't anything particular in fruit that I need, anyway.
