Hi Ziggen,
Taking years does not mean you will feel this bad for all that time. Sometimes the improvements are slow and not always realised at the time. You can improve over time gradually and I certainly did with the Cutler protocol.
So much so, I THOUGHT I was well, but in hindsight, I had not finished chelating mercury at all. I still had symptoms from DMSA and hadn't even started on ALA. Even though I felt well inbetween chelation, and I liked feeling well, so I got lazy with chelation.
Problem is, because I was still obviously poisoned, I was vulnerable and I got infected with a very serious virus/bacteria that has impacted my life tremendously. Worse even than the mercury did, but I'd say it was the presence of so much mercury and a poisoned immunity that I probably got it in the first place.
Chelation should continue even if you start feeling well again. Remaining mercury may cause future problems. You get used to feeling so ill, that when you start feeling better, you can confuse it with being "well", when there maybe significant mercury still present that needs continued chelation. You maybe on your way to becoming well, but may still need to keep chelating AFTER you feel well.
Alpha lipoic acid is the one to do that, after you have reduced body/blood mercury with DMSA first for a few months.
