This is a bit off subject, but I wanted to warn everyone of the dangers of hospitals. I have read about Drs. being a high cause of death, but just experienced this with the death of our 18 year old niece last week. She was involved in a car accident and had head injuries, but the Drs. said that they weren't bad and that she would not have any long term effects. Then they put her on drugs to induce a coma to keep down the swelling of the brain and 4 days later she had developed pnuemonia (sp) and a systemic infection and that night went code blue. They were able to bring her back, but didn't seem to know why this was all happening. Her heart was racing so fast and hard that she died the next day.
I looked up about barbiturate induced comas and learned that 25 % are accompanied by severe side effects. These included lung infections. I feel that they use these drugs so often they don't take each indivdual into account.
Also, I learned that she had been suffering from panic attacks which told me that she had health issues that probably contributed to her body not being able to handle the stress of the ordeal. If doctors would take those things seriously and get to the root of the problem instead of telling you that it is in your head, then many problems could be avoided for so many.
How many have to die before we start rebelling and not say, "well they did the best they could do".

I'm so sorry about your niece, Missy. What a terrible thing to happen.
I am totally disillusioned with the medical and dental profession. I don't trust anything anyone tells me anymore. These days it's like we have to be our own doctors! When I was having a tooth pulled a few months ago, my father, who was with me, said that "you know, when you and he were dicussing it, you actually came across as knowing more than him." How bad is that?

I am so sorry about your neice.
Doctors really need a more open mind to ALL the alternative options--instead of thinking that Drugs are the ONLY safe way.
They need to think outside of the box- unfortunately- medical school doenst encourage this- and especially the big Pharmecuetical Drug " Cartel " - that not only practically owns the doctors, but also owns the media and Congress.
I am not against doctors-Many are well intentioned. I just think the system is very corrupt -- and many doctors have sold into it because it was what they were taught.

Missy, Truly sorry to hear about this tragedy. My Dad died of liver failure and his death certificate says he died of cancer. He was on a powerful chemtherapy drug (which I am against) that destroyed his liver. The post below speaks to the heart of this matter: Drug-Related Mortality

I wanted to tell my thoughts on the matter here on the forum as I knew if I said anything to anyone else they would just roll their eyes and say "here she goes again on some crazy idea". So I kept my thoughts to myself and a couple of days ago my husband out of the blue said, "I just can't help but think that they killed her". I guess he is picking up on some things after all.
Thanks for the sites and your support!

That, I'd say, sums it up!
I really don't understand why they wanted to induce a coma. I can't help think that would have to be risky initself. Just having general anaesthetic carries risk. If she didn't have brain damage, I don't understand why they didn't just monitor her condition.

Demi, I looked this up. They induce a coma to slow down the blood flow etc. to the brain and hopefully reduce the swelling of the brain. The medical sites that I read said that there is no proof as to whether this is effective or not. They also sited other options, such as drilling a hole to relieve pressure and others I can't remember.
Important for people to remember is that there usually are more options and the Dr.s will probably "push" the one that is their prefered not necessarily the best for you. We should always ask lots of questions about dangers, options etc.
Of course this is the same lesson that we have all had to learn the hard way about dentist.
