Everyone fulfills prophecy - it's just a matter of when. II Pet. 3 begins [1] This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: [2] That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: [3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. [5] For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: [7] But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. [8] But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. [9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Notice this prediction: scoffers will deny the flood. What could be more contrary to common knowledge than this? The flood has, one way or another, been believed and accepted by almost every civilization. Where could Peter possibly get such an idea? http://creationwiki.org/index.php/Flood_legends#Comparison_of_Accountshttp://www.worldwideflood.com/flood/legends/flood_legends.htmhttp://www.grisda.org/origins/17051.htm http://home.earthlink.net/~misaak/floods.htm We cannot help imagining puzzled looks, when these words were first read. We know Peter's an apostle, and we know the Lord reveals secrets to him, but how could anyone possibly deny the flood? How could anyone possibly take such nonsense seriously? But here we are. Not only do atheists deny the flood; many, perhaps most, persons who call themselves 'christians' go right along with them. Call it appeasement, or compromise, or whatever you will. Facts are facts. This has to be among the most certain and inexplicable prophecies ever. We know when it was written; we know how certainly it has come to pass. And we have a pretty good idea how utterly contrary it must have been to the expectations of persons living at that time. The language isn't subject to several interpretations, either. Peter clearly predicted scoffers would deny the flood, and he did so at a time when the prediction would have been astonishing to his contemporaries. There is no weaseling around this. There's no denial. This is one the scoffers must simply put out of their minds, as they continue to comply with exactly what it says.
