Hi Jeanie,
I hear you. I am a 'protein-type' myself. I don't eat meat anymore myself, but I do make certain to get more protein bearing portions of food than my wife or family take. It's not always easy to get enough protein such that I feel good after a meal. In fact, it is downright difficult sometimes.
If I could get an extremely clean source of meat, I'd probably go for it, sparingly, but just for the sake of another concentrated source of protein.
But that seems next to impossible.
The primary issue for me, as concerns meat, is the bio accumulation of pesticides. That is to say, even if you *think* you've got a good clean source of meat, the animal is probably exposed to pesticides that get on his otherwise wholesome food from nearby farming activities, which then bio accumulates in the animal.
And then when a human comes along and eats their flesh, he/she gets a nasty dose of pesticides.
And if you are mercury poisoned to begin with, you sure don't need any other nightmares to contend with...
My sister, on the other hand, doesn't eat anything with a face. Now, the Captain might be getting soft, well ahem, soft-er, but I am starting to see her point. And this from a guy who used to make terrible fun of vegetarians. Now I 'are' one. Well, a lacto-ovum vegetarian anyway.
All the best of health to you,
Captain Mercury
