Okay, I have been making some progress today. I spent 3 hours in the supermarket looking at the contents of everything I was interested in buying <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Good for you for taking the time -- most people won't do it.

I got some organic eggs, which I am not really happy about eating, but I'm going slowly with the diet change.

Unfortunately, "organic" does not necessarily mean "cruelty-free". It only means they are not fed hormones or antibiotics. It does not necessarily mean that they are fed organic grains.

Also, the term "free range" is largely unregulated, and the interpretations of what "free range" actually means are wide ranging. The only surefire way to know is to go to the farm yourself (if one is avalable locally). Unfortunately, this often means just doing the best you can with what your options are.

Also, most egg-laying hens end up in the slaugherhouse eventually.
