I've thought a while how best to respond to this, and I can't really think of a way except to say it plainly - that is the "rationality" of a bully. Our words (and actions) have the power to hurt someone. In that way, we do directly influence the feelings of others. A kind word can build someone up, a cruel word can tear them down. Bullying and abuse doesn't have to be physical or sexual, it can be verbal.
