Hi there Ole,

The same thing happened to me following my last amalgam removals. I was 24 years of age, so it has nothing to do with age or anything like that. I had previously normal fullish cheeks. Following this, I became pale in the face and my cheeks were thinner (almost drawn inwards). I was upset to say the least.

I do not know why it happened, but I assume it has something to do with increased poisoning, not only by the drilling out of amalgam, but also by possible swallowing of any fragments. When the last of them are removed (at least for me), it seems that the suppression that had been there with amalgams, has been released and the full extent of poisoning becomes realised.

So you begin to see and experience the effects of it much more. That's how I saw it anyway (I could be wrong). So now I was seeing the real mask of my extent of poisoning and I looked pretty haggard actually, wretched, thin in the face etc.

There were moments that it improved, but then it would worsen eachtime my body was trying to detox more of it. I'd get the same thin drawn in look. My tongue also became swollen and that with the drawn in cheeks, I had the feeling of mouth constriction (all symptoms of mercury poisoning). The only real way to start to truly recover from this was chelation and ongoing to really start to get this poison out of my tissues/organs, so that true blue health would start to surface again and my drawn in cheeks would fill out more.

I was on a pretty good diet, though at that time I was lucky and only had to give up sugar, wheat/gluten and yeast. I was able to eat fruit, any vegetables, non wheat/gluten grain, and still have milk in my tea. I mainly found that vitamin C (powder with bioflavanoids), selenium (I took it in the form of liquid sodium selenite, though some do better on selenomethoione)- about 150 mcg a day (one drop, or I'd increase it to double). And vitamin E. They were my main help. Though in hindsight, I'd add a few more like zinc, magnesium and iodine etc. and a good overall powder vitamin/mineral mix.

I had hot baths with epsom salts (about a cup of more) to help increase the excretion of metal via the pores. Or sea salt with baking soda (which I think actually worked even better). About a cup or more of both. And also increased exercise on treadmill (walking and if possible incline) and some rebounding inbetween.

Then I started to get onto more heavy duty chelation. That is individual, so what may work for some, may not work as well for you. Some do very well on natural methods like chlorella, garlic, cilantro, high sulfur foods etc. Some have pretty awful reactions and may find Andrew Hall Cutler's protocol the way to go. In the end, I wound up using his because my symptoms were intolerable on just about anything else. But I didin't care much because I just wanted the stuff out either way. His gave symptoms and yes I felt worse when detoxing, but I'm afraid that there is no real escape from symptoms if you wish to get the stored poison out of you.

Oddly enough, my symptoms were easier and more suppressed WITH amalgam in place and my reactions to garlic etc, were minimal. However, after complete removal of amalgam? That's when things really started happening and there was no suppression whatsoever, my body was in full detox mode and very poisoned at that. Though I was very poisoned with amalgams, the symptoms were not as dramatic until post amalgam removal.
