Hi Evilbaga,
As I understand it, DMSA removes via the urine (kidneys etc) and ALA via the feces. Constipation can be a problem yes. Make sure you get enough magnesium, vitamin C and some fibre in your diet (actually raw fruits/vegetables non gluten/non wheat grain do just fine if you're concerned). i wouldn't overdo it though, because that too can be detrimental. Fruit of course maybe an issue if you suffer candida, which is common in mercury and can cause many of the symptoms we suffer.
Fruit is natural sugar. sugar feeds yeast/candida. Other sugar of course is even worse. Both for that reason and lowering immunity apparently. Try and stick with natural if you have any at all. Depends on how you feel about candida though. Some do not wish to go on the diet. That is up to the person.
I have heard of mobilised toxins being reabsorbed due to impaction/constipation. Possible I guess, but I don't dwell on it too much. Because there are always some risks to chelation, as you are moving toxins/metals, so there is going to be at least some problems with them coming out. Particularly when detox pathways, bowels etc can be a bit sluggish. So one might have more problems than others. Moisture from raw foods is the best in my opinion, with the raw fruits/vegetables providing an internal broom almost.
I wouldn't bother so much with fibre supplements, I would simply be eating a good diet constantly and changing the way your body works, by improving it's function, it's excretion and the bowels, kidneys, liver etc that way. I'd just do things naturally and gently, so your body can adapt and make the right changes.
If you are concerned about reabsorption for any reason - there is a supplement sold on herballure (or elsewhere), called Algin. Highly recommended for those suffering with mercury and even when you are chelating. It helps act as a sponge and avoids some of the reabsorption that can occur. It's the brand "nature's sunshine" if you're interested. Probably a more trusted brand.
Check out candida on the internet too if you haven't done so already. Symptoms may correspond with many you maybe suffering. Mercury keeps the immunity lowered, so candida can take over. Many of the symptoms can be yeast and not always metal, even if metals are the culprit. Candida can also cause constipation, so it's a two edged sword. It poisons the liver and other areas of the body with it's alcohols/toxins it gives off. yes, going on a candida diet will make symptos worse at first as excess yeast dies off, but the improvements are often dramatic after a few weeks of sticking to it.
One biologic dentist here will not even remove amalgams from his sick/toxic patients, until candida is treated. he puts them first on a diet and goes from there. That is how important it is to prepare the gut and liver for extra mercury exposure during removal and/or simply detoxing it and also for improved immunity and sometimes sanity~!
Take care.
