Hi Dean,
I've experienced this and yes it can be related to candida. But candida is a symptom of something else amiss. A challenged/lowered immunity cannot keep yeast in check and at normal levels. So there is possibly something bigger going on, but regardless, it's wise to treat candida so you can at least improve.
No cleanse will do much, unless you have adjusted your entire diet dramatically. Otherwise, you'll likely get nowhere fast. You MUST eliminate ALL forms of sugars from your diet as much as you can. First by getting rid of the obvious ones (e.g. candies/cakes/etc), and then by reducing or eliminating even natural ones like honey, fruit, and high carbs like potatoes and grains (if you need to).
You should also make sure you eliminate wheat/gluten and yeast products. Sugar, wheat/gluten and yeast are usually the worst culprits in keeping a person sick and feeding yeast. From there, you should also reduce or eliminate the other ones mentioned and maybe more.
Safe foods are usually meat, eggs (free range if possible), low carbohydrate vegetables, almonds/brazil nuts, seeds, natural sugar free acidophilus yoghurt. Herbal tea. You may get away with black tea also. Eliminate milk though, it's lactose (natural sugar contained).
Depends on how severe you have it. You 'may' get away with some natural foods high in carbs, or you may not. better to err on the side of caution and do a real clean up job of the diet and get rid of all obvious and natural sugars and see if you go through a die off process (you get worse from the yeast dying off and releasing its toxins). Then you start improving. it may take a few weeks or more.
No antifungal or cleanse is going to do much at all without the diet. The diet alone is often all people need because it's not only denies yeast what it requires to thrive, but it helps build immunity. You should include plenty of animal fats (butter for example to aid healing). They work well, as does fish oil (mercury free brand).
I don't know if you have done this, but in case you haven't it's crucial. Blood work etc, tend to give no accurate results regarding this condition. It's unfortunate, but common. Ignore them and simply do the diet strictly and test yourself that way. write down all the symptoms you currently experience and then do the diet and see what the outcome is (if you havent' already). The diet saved my life. It reduce and almost eliminated my suicidal depression at that time.
Typical things that can cause yeast are over-use of antibiotics, lowered immunity from viral or toxic illness or other infections, mercury/metal toxicity etc (from amalgam or elsewhere). All can suppress immunity and allow yeast to overgrow. But in reducing yeast, you improve immunity and help your body deal much better with what is REALLY going on. Then you maybe able to start addressing whatever that maybe, when you feel stronger from treating yeast.
Supplements may also aid you. E.g. a good multivitamin/mineral base powder (quality and no sugar). From there, you can get some extra vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, iodine (a bit extra can help, as we often lack iodine but be careful not to take too much, you can go in detox very quickly and dramatically), magnesium/calcium (equal ratios if possible), zinc. Fish oil and animal fats are great too and plenty of protein from eggs and meats etc.
These are just suggestions. I am not a professional and can only give you some ideas as to what may help you. But you MUST stick with it for any results. Cheating on this diet will usually put a person back to square one, UNLESS they have done a lot of healing and can handle the odd cheat much later on. Depends.
I hope this is helpful to you in some way.
To give you an example of what candida did to me? I had the pressure headaches and they occured daily. I used to wind up in tears because of it. I was very ill. I was bloated and sick, suffering severe depression, suicidal thoughts, strange thoughts/obsessions, blurry vision, loss of night vision, pale face, insomnia, itching, etc etc. So many symptoms, yet no blood test showed a thing wrong!!! And when that happens, you can be pretty sure it's likely candida, or at the very least, it's PART of the problem.
Going on such a diet, may cause yeast to start dying off and you may feel in a strange way worse (or in another way). Your symptoms may initially intensify as the toxins start to be released as yeast start dying. You may get headaches, dizziness, feeling drunk, moody, tired, nauseous, etc. You could even get worse itching (if you've had itching or not before). The list goes on. Strange things happen as your body is healing. I had awful headaches at first as the toxins in the brain (at least that's how it felt) were being released.
The improvement after this was pretty dramatic. Though I was still unwell (as the underlying problem was actually mercury toxicity via my amalgams), I was FAR happier and healthier. My skin, hair, eyes, etc improved in quality and appearance. NO MORE PRESSURE HEADACHES, NO MORE BLURRED VISION, NO MORE SEVERE DEPRESSION/SUICIDAL THOUGHTS. Yes there were still symptoms of underying poisoning, and that had to be dealt with, but what a difference. Giving up sugar, wheat/gluten, yeast were the main helps back then. Coffee also (be careful of that one too).
Cheers.
