There are many other sources of bromide compounds...one of the most significant is fire retardants which are very very bad, and can be found in furniture, mattresses, carpet, and other places.
Personally I think many of the symptoms from iodine come from mercury and fluoride, as we are exposed fluoride by bathing, drinking water, toothpaste, and many other sources. There is not much research on absorption of fluoride through the skin but from the studies that were done hot showers and baths in fluoridated water could add a significant fluoride burden to your body...and as we know fluoride is even more toxic if you are low on iodine.
In any case...taking iodine releases bromine, fluoride, mercury, and probably other toxins which can explain why it can make you feel so terrible. Take it slow and slowly build up the doses...I think taking it in high doses the way Birdlady did it can cause too much stress on the body by releasing too many toxins at once. Yes I am taking it slow, even slowly I get the effects sometimes, last night I had a HORRIBLE crushing headache until I salt loaded, then boom the symptoms gone in about 10 minutes. It seems that if you take a half a teaspoon of some good mineral salt you can get rid of those detox symptoms from the Bromide and possibly others as well? I felt alot better after taking the salt, and thats an understatement. I don't eat too much Kelp yet though, if I do I will feel like crap and work is ALOT harder after that to say the least. I heard about the Fluoride and low iodine as well, good stuff there. The Mercury detox though I have no clue on as far as this? Maybe I have more fluoride and Bromide than Mercury because it is not really effecting me that bad after salt loading which allows me to detox more (Magnesium as well).
In Sanskrit, tulsi means literally "the incomparable one" and has been revered since ancient times. Tulsi, the holy basil, is said to have grown at the site of Christ’s crucifixion and is associated with St. Basil’s feast.
