What matters is that how much mercury you lift up in a *time unit*. Remember that althought *total* ALA taken throughout a 3 day cycle is greater than that taken throughout a 12h cycle in former case it is spread throughout a 3 day time frame, during wich the metals keep moving and are being (hopefully) excreted and not settling. So bascially if u end a 12h cycle or a 3 day cycle of the same dose of ALA, the *same* amount settles.
Now in the *LONG RUN* you will have more (often) redistribution from shorter rounds than from longer rounds say 3 3-day day rounds in 3 weeks (3 redistributions) vs. 18! 12h-rounds in 3 weeks (18 redistributions!) which equals 6 times more damage, cause each time mercury settles it causes damage.
