Does mercury toxicity cause transient (comes and goes) double vision? This symptom is one of the ones I am MOST anxious to get rid of. You can't imagine driving down a busy highway and having your vision go double on you.

Sometimes I get double vision and things seem out of focus...I hate it. Then it makes me get dizzy and I hate that feeling, like things are moving in front of my eyes.. Don't know what to do but to wait for it to pass. Sometimes taking 4 Algin makes things "clear up" and zoom in a bit. It's just another annoying symptom to deal with.

Anyone get dizziness? What do you do about it? (feeling like the ground is not steady, walking on the boat kind of feeling..)

The inability to focus on things that are near (nearsighted) is a well-known mercury symptom. This has to do with an increase in intraocular (within-the-eye) fluid pressure which changes the shape (focal-length) of the eye. In about 5% of mercury toxic people, it works the opposite way: This pressure decreases and makes them farsighted.

I've also read about "lazy eye" conditions being cause by a weaking of the muscles of the eye.

Dizzyness and loss of equilibrium is also well-known as mercury symptoms. Mercury alters some pressure mechanism in the inner ear that alters your sense of balance. I've read about this but not enough to fully understand it at this time.

Mercury also interferes with the heart beat making it weak which can cause loss of balance when standing up or performing physical activity. It can cause low blood pressure as well.

I thought that the inability to focus on things that are near is called farsightedness. Now I don't know what to believe. Can someone help out.

Actually, Russ, my close vision is o.k. (with glasses) but my distance vision often goes double. It can be fine one moment and then double. It is really fun when driving on the highway esp. at night. The sun, and headlights REALLY make things worse.
I have had intermittent dizziness for many years, esp when getting up. I get really dizzy and lightheaded and things go all black. Occasionally, I pass out. I know I have low blood pressure.

Carla, I also have read that the inability to see things close up was called farsighted (ie: because you could see distant things well) and the inability to see things far away was called nearsighted (because you could see near things well). I think, when I have the time, I will look it up. Also, does anyone out there experience a transient gray fog covering their vision so that it looks like they are looking through a gray cloud - no matter what the distance?

I get focus problems. I'm shortsighted - which, as far as I believe - means I can see things at a short distance but not far away. For me it is very short, lol, as things blur after about half an arms length. I sometiimes get "light headed" and feel like I'm off balance.

I have noticed at times that in buildings such as at worship services, that it seems like there is not enough light to see well. I figure it is just me. I also have problems with reading sometimes-the words seem to be moving about on the page like someone is moving my book back and forth. This isn't often though, thank goodness. I also have just started having problems with being able to see up close, but since I am 42, I guess that is just presbyopia creeping in on me.

I forgot to mention, that my friend that is seeing Dr. Rea, an environmental Dr. in Texas, told me that he said that the balance problem is because you are toxic. That is why they do the "walk the line" test to see if someone is drunk. It isn't the alcohol, but the fact that the person has become "intoxicated". I told my husband a few years ago that if I was an alcoholic my symptoms would make sense. I don't drink at all, but have chronic intoxification from the mercury.
