i just wandered what you all feel about this, how many of you have persued seeing a biological doctor, along with dental visits, and for detox protocal. it gets worrying as the symptoms come and go,like at the mo, i am getting numbness and tingling again, that symptoms may be accumilating to irrevesable damage. how safe is it to plan our own protocal ? i spoke to an asst at klinghardts clinic, who said it was imperitive to work with a doctor.would like to hear any ones views. miriam

Hi Miriam,
for me taking responsibility for my own detox was the only way since I had no other choice. I could not find anyone qualified in the field of mercury toxicity in the vicinity of Tampa, FL where I used to live, or now in Belgrade, Serbia.
Perhaps even if I was able to locate someone knowledgeble, it would have been too expensive to even consider, so I pretty much relied on Russ and Laura's advice, since I am confident with what they have to say and the research they have done, as well as the fact that they have both experienced this themselves. Some doctors could perhaps give you a detox plan that is not suitable for you and make things even worse. With me things are slowly improving just by taking simple steps such as taking Algin regularly and the vitamins suggested on this forum. I don't know if this is the right thing, and if some irreversible damage will occur, I do fear the same thing, but the fact remains that I feel better, so I must be doing something right. That is mecury is leaving my body, mostly through keeping my colon active. Again, just doing research on the subject and following the advice on the forum has been mostly my way to getting better. I have seen 'regular' doctors who have not been able to help at all...

With all due respect to Klinghardt et al, we do have to consider that it is in their own best interests to not have people attempt their own detoxification. I am not saying that we should go into it blindly - this forum is a good place to start gathering information - but we have to consider some facts.
One fact is that some folks with a mouthful of mercury fillings have none, and I mean none, of the usual symptoms, including the up & down symptoms.
Another fact is that some people who detox by whatever method do not get terrible "side" effects.
Why might this be? In my view, because some people have a tough constitution: their body can absorb plenty of mercury, decade after decade, before it does any damage. When they do a detox, their inherent strength takes over to minimize the flooding of the body with mercury. It's like water-only fasts; not everyone can handle it.
The weaker you are, the worse it will be. So, I would work on my own overall constitutional health before I work on any specific detox.
Doctors don't appear to recognize the idea of constitutional strength, but if you do some reading on Chinese medicine, and some other nature-based cures, this idea does come up. I don't think everyone was meant to be attempting detox of mercury or anything else without regard to their basic constitutional health.
Please keep in mind that in the "olden days", before antibiotics and un-natural hightech medicine, nature wisely sent bacteria- or virus-type diseases to clean people out - which killed some, in order to keep the entire tribe strong. So anyone who survived the scarlet fever, bubonic plague, etc. was a tough bird. We have almost no tough birds any more. And that is why detox is so hard for so many of us.

good point carla,my question would be, to what extent do we go to aquire our own immune system strength, as we all have different levels, as you said, how neccessary is it to maybe get a blood panel checked by someone, for each individual, and to take supplements accordingly, to counteract imbalances. thanks, miriam

Any extent that will not leave you financially bankrupt or giving up the basic necessities of life. If you have money for tests & diagnoses, etc., go for it! If you have money for supplements and tonics that you believe will work, over time, for you, then purchase them & take them faithfully. If there is something - any kind of hobby or avocation - that you just love to do, no matter what, then do it. No matter how sick you are, do what you love to do to the extent that you can. I am taking my own advice, not just handing it out to others. And I read a book that changed my outlook: The Alchemy of Illness by Kat Duff. And may God bless you & help you.

I personally feel that in order to get well (if you are really sick) one has to take charge of your own health.
This doesn't mean you need to be your own doctor but to become as informed as possiable. Maybe you will feel comfortable in becoming your own doctor who knows but at least you have the knowledge to make better informed decisions.

I will be responsible for my own. I'm glad of that, in a way, because my fear is some of the programs can make someone worse. Also it would be another expense that I can't really afford at the moment.
