I read that if you have mercury fillings AND dental braces the metals can combine to affect your health even worse, so my question is, do dental braces promote metal poisoning and ill health ?

I had metal braces placed on my teeth at age 15. This is the age where all my health nightmares became apparent. How interesting they all coincided almost immediately after the extra toxic metal was placed in my mouth.
That's where I pinpoint it all, because before that, life was much happier and healthier for me. Braces pretty much destroyed it all. Though in hindsight, I now believe I was never well, but probably "hanging in there". I guess the braces were the key that buckled my body's ability to continue coping with the amalgams.
Whatever happened, I never recovered and though they were removed, the "improvement" was minimal and the health problems an ongoing issue in my life and horrific at that. I gather the metal toxins from braces are significant and as bad, if not worse than mercury from amalgam. The combination is even worse. Add that, plus the galvanic response of opposing metals, which increases the uptake of mercury from amalgam and you pretty much have a disaster waiting to happen to anybody more vulnerable/sensitive than someone else.
Yes, metal braces promote metal poisoning and ill health. I am a testament to that unfortunate fact. I had a friend that got braces very late in life (early twenties) and even her, in all her good health, was never as healthy with them, much paler and more depressed. Coincidence? I don't know. Though unlike me, she at least bounced back.

Hadn't thought of the combination, but know it cause nickel poisoning. I have a book that states kids with braces often go down a full grade in their grade point averages while wearing them. I also wore them and just a few years ago, but told them I needed the least toxic so my braces were made of titanium. The little hooks were stainless or something....not perfect, but better than nickel. Obviously any thing you compound will make things worse with metals. I didn't know this, but Russ has said if you have alluminum poisoning it will make your mercury much worse on you.

To be honest, I don't know! She may have had them, but not as much as myself. I was just very metal allergic anyway. I could not even have a belt buckle touch the skin of my stomach. I couldn't wear cheap metal earrings, or bracelets or anything like that. Everything for me has to be a pure metal or I'm in trouble. Junk metal is a nightmare! But combinations of it are even worse.

Orthodontic braces nearly killed me. In Sept of 2006 at age 42 I had metal braces fitted and after a few months had major neck and back pain this progressed into nausea, vommiting, diahorrea, abdominal cramps, chronic fatique, facial flushing and dermatitis & blurred vision. No doctor could diagnose anything clinically wrong with me. It must be "in your head" they said. Forteen months later my braces were removed and my health returned to normal. I never at this time assiciated my ill health to braces until my daughter at age 11 in 2008 had her her braces fitted and had identical symptoms her instetinal health was also ruined, we are having are braces removed a.s.a.p. The Orthodontist did not dispute my claim. I have a guy at work who has braces and a mysterious case of chronic fatique. Strange how these dentists are happy apply these items on our teeth with on concern to warn us about the ill effects of metal poisoning. I would love to hear from anyone else and their experience with braces. Also my daughter and I had hair folicle test done at the hight of our illnesses to confim my diagnosis.

Having braces fitted at age 14/15 was the beginning of my health nightmare. I was never the same, even though they were removed later. I improved to a point, but that was it. From then on life changed and has never been the same.
I gather though I must have already had problems and it just took one more health challenge to cause me to buckle. I just did not bounce back. I never noticed big health problems before that and was always a very energetic person (possibly too much perhaps, a little hyper). But happy, seemingly healthy and confident though a bit shy.
I can't quite believe the dramatic change and impact following the placement of braces. It started as soon as the metal studs were put on, even before the wire. The changes were dramatic and I'm surprised nobody made the connection. It was almost immediate too. Hair, skin, eyes, personality/mental outlook, everything changed. Blurred vision, horrible skin that wouldn't heal properly, hair faded in colour, weight loss, late menstruation, tearful, depressed, taut skin with blemishes, bizzare mental thoughts, obsessive behaviours, compulsive behaviours, withdrawn, gut problems/cramps. It was like a nightmare descended upon me.
I have heard that there are alternatives to these metal/nickel braces? Ones that are ok for those who are metal sensitive?

I have also had braces when I was 16 and thats when my mercury poisoning also took a turn for the worse.
They do contain nickel and some other nasty metals, which are harder to excrete if you have mercury toxicity, but my understanding is that all of the metals increases oral galvanism and speeds up the release of mercury vapor from the fillings.
