I am a RN, and ND to be. I suffered from ovarian cyst. I was 38 when diagnosed. One was so large it burst and cause a lot of blood and pus to seep into my lower abdomen. I swelled like a beach whale, and I carried a low grade fever for a month.
I was offered birth control then and said no because I feared a pulmonary embolism from a clot that may form in my lower leg, as nurse I've seen enough of that. I kept getting the cyst. One day I decided I needed to help myself, so I did a lot of research read a lot of books including Dr. Lee's book which I listed below. I've listen to the focus calls from NSP on this issue, and so on. I've been to a zillion messages boards communicated with many, many woman with this same dilemma. Listen their stories, and I started experimenting finally I found my solution.
Let me start off by saying I had the follicle type or simple cysts, which are fluid filled. There are many types of cyst, and some that do not shrink or burst, and that are very large, which can cause compression on other organs. They are also a higher risk type and may turn into cancer. That would be the only reason I'd have one of my ovaries removed. I cannot understand why someone would allow the removal of a body organ after the fact. I understood you to say the cyst burst. Blows my mind.
This is what I did I used Pro-G-500 cream 1/2 teaspoon in the evening before bed, and 1/4 teaspoon in the am, start on 5th day of menses. I use sarsaparilla, evening primrose or Super GLA and Female Comfort everyday. You can also add Phyto-Soy capsules to help block and regulate estrogen. Beta carotene I added extra amounts, which is suggested by Dr. Lee. Also, DHEA is recommended which I am just now starting on myself. Nutri Calm for helping with stress levels, and it is full of B vits a must to the diet.
Naturopaths believe that there are many reasons for inbalances of hormones in women. They look at the whole picture. The number one priority is to detox the body of toxins. Toxins are every where and they store themselves in body fat and the colon. Toxins enter into the body through the environment, your foods, and water, and breathing.
Some suggestions might be to eat a balanced diet; remove all refine sugar, and flour products, wheat, caffeine and dairy. Add more omega 3 fatty acids such as black currant oil, evening primrose and flax seed oil. Balance the sugar in the body by decreasing ones appetite for the sweet tooth by using licorice root (use only if Blood pressure is normal) and GTF Chromium. Support the liver with Chinese Liver Balance. Eat only range fed animal products. Use only olive oil to cook. Use no talcum powder. What has been noted that many woman with ovarian cyst suffer from what is know as estrogen dominance, and a decrease in progesterone.
The book I listed is "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty" by John R. Lee, Jesse Hanley.

P.S. We are learning about disease in relation to the person blood type. So it may be a wise idea to find out her blood type and investigate the foods to avoid because of the lectin factor in relationship to illness. There are some books on this subject called "Live Right For Your Blood Type" and "Metabolic Typing" for suggested reading. The more I learn about this the more I am convinced it is very important to know this info and learned about he reason why and try to change while you can.
