I am a 26 year old female who recently had a cyst erupt on my ovary. They
had to remove it (the ovary) and proceeded to put me on birth control to
keep the cysts from forming on my other ovary. I am so against taking
anything unnatural. But I'm scared of losing my other ovary because I
want to have children. I'm searching for a natural healer or alternative
doctor in the Cleveland, Ohio area, but am having no luck. I hate the way
these pills (Ovcon 35) make me feel, but mostly, I'm scared of them. My family
has a history of heart disease, and I do not want to add to my risk of
having that as well. My doctor says it's the only way, but I know there's
other forms of hormones that can help me, right? Would any of you know of
anything that could help me in me naturally? or do you know of anyone who would know?
I'm so desperate.
Thank you for your time.

After suffering from endometriosis and finally having a total hysterectomy I learned much about cysts and excess estrogen. The only thing that I do know of that assisted at all for me prior to having my hysterectomy (which is not inevitable, was just MY personal choice after my battle) was to use progesterone cream. Normally people with ovarian cysts are estrogen dominant and the progesterone (wild yam) cream will help to balance that. There is so much information online about this natural remedy so please do yourself a favor and look it up. It may not offer you a complete reprieve, but it's a place to start anyway! Good luck to you!

I am a RN, and ND to be. I suffered from ovarian cyst. I was 38 when diagnosed. One was so large it burst and cause a lot of blood and pus to seep into my lower abdomen. I swelled like a beach whale, and I carried a low grade fever for a month.

I was offered birth control then and said no because I feared a pulmonary embolism from a clot that may form in my lower leg, as nurse I've seen enough of that. I kept getting the cyst. One day I decided I needed to help myself, so I did a lot of research read a lot of books including Dr. Lee's book which I listed below. I've listen to the focus calls from NSP on this issue, and so on. I've been to a zillion messages boards communicated with many, many woman with this same dilemma. Listen their stories, and I started experimenting finally I found my solution.

Let me start off by saying I had the follicle type or simple cysts, which are fluid filled. There are many types of cyst, and some that do not shrink or burst, and that are very large, which can cause compression on other organs. They are also a higher risk type and may turn into cancer. That would be the only reason I'd have one of my ovaries removed. I cannot understand why someone would allow the removal of a body organ after the fact. I understood you to say the cyst burst. Blows my mind.

This is what I did I used Pro-G-500 cream 1/2 teaspoon in the evening before bed, and 1/4 teaspoon in the am, start on 5th day of menses. I use sarsaparilla, evening primrose or Super GLA and Female Comfort everyday. You can also add Phyto-Soy capsules to help block and regulate estrogen. Beta carotene I added extra amounts, which is suggested by Dr. Lee. Also, DHEA is recommended which I am just now starting on myself. Nutri Calm for helping with stress levels, and it is full of B vits a must to the diet.

Naturopaths believe that there are many reasons for inbalances of hormones in women. They look at the whole picture. The number one priority is to detox the body of toxins. Toxins are every where and they store themselves in body fat and the colon. Toxins enter into the body through the environment, your foods, and water, and breathing.

Some suggestions might be to eat a balanced diet; remove all refine sugar, and flour products, wheat, caffeine and dairy. Add more omega 3 fatty acids such as black currant oil, evening primrose and flax seed oil. Balance the sugar in the body by decreasing ones appetite for the sweet tooth by using licorice root (use only if Blood pressure is normal) and GTF Chromium. Support the liver with Chinese Liver Balance. Eat only range fed animal products. Use only olive oil to cook. Use no talcum powder. What has been noted that many woman with ovarian cyst suffer from what is know as estrogen dominance, and a decrease in progesterone.

The book I listed is "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty" by John R. Lee, Jesse Hanley.

Best regards; Darcy

P.S. We are learning about disease in relation to the person blood type. So it may be a wise idea to find out her blood type and investigate the foods to avoid because of the lectin factor in relationship to illness. There are some books on this subject called "Live Right For Your Blood Type" and "Metabolic Typing" for suggested reading. The more I learn about this the more I am convinced it is very important to know this info and learned about he reason why and try to change while you can.

Darcy

Dear Laura,

Just wanted to ask you about the cysts. You have given a lot of useful information regarding this topic. I am going through it now. I have an ovarian cyst that 2 days ago measured 4 cm x 4 cm and yesterday changed completely (I believed it was because it probably ruptured), today it is 5 cm x 4 cm * We know the exact measurements because we do ultrasound and have been following it* I adquired kidney stones and an ovarian cyst, I believe from consumption of lots of licorice tea (which supposedly encourages the production of estrogens in your body when you drink it in large amounts); trying to get rid of constipation and cleaning my kidneys. I was also taking Evening Primrose Oil and I have read somewhere that is a natural estrogen. I also read that these cysts are the consequence of a low thyroid function (which I have: Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Hypothyroidism) and lots of estrogens in your body. My questions are:

Where do I buy that Cream that you purchased for Natural Progesterone?

Isn't Evening Primrose Oil contraindicated because of the amount of estrogens? If this is not, How much do you take?
Or Do you only take this for PMS?

I am very confused. I am trying to stay away from drugs, etc. trying to treat my Hashimoto's (which gives me a lot of constipation, etc) with natural remedies and I have some doubts regarding this estrogen, progesterone deal. I have also read that Pau D'Arco can get rid of the kidney stones as well as of the Ovarian Cysts.

I appreciate any feedback you can provide me with.

Very Best Regards,

The Pro-G-Yam Cream (500mg) can be ordered through Herb Allure by calling 1-800-358-4278.

Regarding Question #2, I know of no research to suggest that Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is contraindicated for ovarian cysts. Likewise, evening primrose oil does not contain estrogens.

Instread, EPO contains gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an esential fatty acid that the body converts to a "hormone-like" substance called prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). This substance provides anti-inflammatory properties - it does not exert estrogenic activity.

EPO is typically used for female problems including PMS and fibrocystic breast disease. Sources indicate the general daily dosage used is 3,000-6,000mg, providing approximately 270-540mg of GLA.

Regarding the other health problems you mentioned, for constipation, I personally prefer Cascara Sagrada. I find that 1 capsule at night before bed works wonders, without causing intestinal cramping like some herbs (such as Senna).

Be sure to drink lots of pure water to keep the kidneys properly flushed. Herbs that have been shown to help support kidney function include dandelion, juniper and parsley. Goldenrod is widely-used in Europe in the treatment of bladder infections and urinary tract inflammation/irritation, as well as to prevent formation and facilitate elimination of bladder and kidney stones. For low thyroid function, there are a number of vitamin and minerals that are important...Vitamin B6 is important for normal production of thyroid hormones; zinc is a required cofactor for iodothyronine iodinase, the enzyme that converts T4 to T3; copper is a trace mineral that is a required cofactor for iodothyronine iodinase, the enzyme that converts T4 to T3; Manganese is a trace mineral that is essential for the formation of T4; and tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that is a precursor to thyroid hormones?the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones depend on the presence of tyrosine, along with the mineral iodine. (Source: HART Master Reference)

A product called Thyroid Support by Nature's Sunshine contains all of the above-mentioned nutrients, along with several herbs that are used to support healthy thyroid function.

I hope you find this information helpful... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
