Yes, I have experienced the same with selenium. As if I wasn't bad enough and that nearly tipped me over the edge. I also had candida at the time, so too many toxins inside the body/brain and selenium just seemed to exacerbate it. I handle it now because I'm on a strict diet regime to deal with yeast issues, so it seems selenium is fine now.
Also if you are very mercury toxic and/or have bad candida, you might find the selenium appears to cause a redistribution of toxins/metals and the symptoms can worsen and sometimes seem frightening. I would be cautious if this is the case for you and either take a lesser dose, or forget about taking it.
It is not worth risking frightening symptoms if that's what it is doing and yes it can definitely do some odd things at times if you're very toxic. Go easy on that one. many mercury toxic people can find selenium a problem.
It competes with and apparently displaces mercury too and if your system is overloaded with metals and other toxins, it may not be able to handle this and it could simply make you feel quite crazy. Consider looking into yeast issues, if you haven't already. Big problem with those suffering mercury or other toxicity/immune problems.
Candida can cause many symptoms associated with mercury. Though mercury maybe the cause, sometimes candida symptoms can take over. Make you miserable, suicidal, extremely ill. I always think it's wise to treat both if you're uncertain which is causing more symptoms. If it's mainly mercury and not much yeast....you'll know soon enough after doing the candida diet for a few weeks (no cheats)...if there is little to no improvement, it may not be a big issue with you.
