I agree with JK98 here. There is no need to take extreme doses of these vitamins/minerals. You may need more of something, but too much can be deterimental. Spreading it out during the day is much more effective too.
Too much selenium is also not a wise move. I agree that around 200 mcg seems to be good amount and in some cases maybe a bit too much if one is sensitive and/or getting enough already from other sources (food)...though admittedly because of depleted soil/foods, we are often lacking, PLUS toxicity itself depleting selenium. So generally it is much needed.
I take around 500 IU of vitamin E. I also feel that too much of that is not wise either. Too much of anything isn't. Yep, blood thinners like this and garlic and fish oil are good, but probably not wise in excess (as you can see from nose bleed).
Vitamin C? I use about 1000 mg (1 gram), around 3 times per day (or thereabouts). nothing extreme, but more than enough for my body to get what it needs to fight the extra stress/sickness/toxins. Sometimes one may need more extreme doses in acute situations, but long term? I'd say be careful not to overdo anything too much.
Whether it's coincidence or not, I bought a detoxification support powder and am feeling the benefits. I'd advise caution for those mercury toxic, as it has elements in there that maybe a problem, because they can stir mercury up and alpha lipoic acid, taken too early and in a random manner, can apparently have potential to pull more mercury INTO the brain if the body/blood levels are too high. Though it's a strong chelator of mercury, there are some risks attached to random use.
But here it is and the ingredients, to give people a good idea of why this might be benefitting me (alongside diet).
http://www.clinicians.co.nz/afawcs0132762/CATID=8/SUBID=90/ID=1452/SID=309836848/productdetails.htmlit is actually designed for those with toxicity (including metal), but as we know, some respond adversely to some of these ingredients when they are still high in mercury. I am benefitting personally, but also they are not in extreme doses, but rather seem instead to be giving me just enough to help my system and liver etc.
Alongside this basic overall supplement powder, I add extra vitamin E, selenium (though I have to be careful as 3 teaspoons of the powder during the day gives me 150 mcg of selenium, which is great). However, sometimes I level the powder off to two teaspoons a day instead as a maintainance dose).
I also take a magnesium/calcium supplement (even ratios), about 300 mg of each. And also a good mercury free fish oil. Sometimes zinc and also I take a few drops of iodine to make sure I keep my iodine levels as optimal as I can (given toxins like mercury displace iodine and block it's action in the thyroid gland). Plus there is a problem of low iodine in my country. And also some extra vitamin C.
That's about it, except flaxseed oil which I mix with yoghurt. Rest is done with a good diet and exclusion of all the problems foods.
