I don't think anyone actually believes that the planet Earth is only 6,000 years old. Maybe that's a bit unrelated of a comment here but it caught my attention. Though I'm sure people used to think this hundreds of years ago: they didn't have the technology we do today to verify such things after all.

As for Adam and his evolution. I'm not so sure I believe there ever was such a person but I'm not about to question someone else's beliefs in that regard. I know religion is a touchy subject. But when you said he had no need to evolve any further, Jeanie, I don't think this is an accurate description of what evolution even is. It's not about constantly improving or getting better so much as adapting to one's surroundings. The different human races are adapted to their surroundings. I come from mostly an Anglo-Saxon background, genetically speaking, and lived in Florida for a while. Let me tell you I was not made for that climate! If there was an Adam, whatever race he was was suitable for one climate but unsuitable for another. And he individually could not evolve anyway, it would have to take generations I'm sure. I read somewhere that it's estimated it takes around 10,000 years for a human to adapt (evolve) from negro black pigmentation to stark white. And we all descend from black people anyway, don't we..

If humans ever branch out to the other planets or moons the ones who go will eventually either adapt over many generations (maybe thousands) or perish. The ones who stay here or live on a different planet/moon/etc. than others will likewise be different. So it's not about being 'better' or more evolved. I think a more accurate meaning to the phrase more evolved, Jeanie, is that Aborigines in Australia are better equipped for the climate there while Scandinavian people are better equipped for theirs. And so on.

Thanks for the response, by the way! smile
