They are used to show that embryos from similar organisms undergo similar embryo development until a point is reached where they diverge to develop their particular traits. The more related two different types of organisms are the closer they follow similar embryo development paths.
It's pretty standard stuff, and it relates to common ancestry, another verification of the relationships between different organisms.
Not really. Recap doctrine is presently a part of the religion which is enthusiastically encouraged, but no longer required. Pretty simple.
Yes it is simple to make unfounded statements. A founded statement would provide evidence that recapitulation theory is being taught as fact.
