LL: I don't actually see any predictions here though Jeanie. Russ has talked about Biblical prophecies from time to time but unless you accept the Bible as the infallible and literal word of God, there are some problems with accepting religious prophecies at face value. What's more, those prophecies themselves are usually pretty ambiguous and can be interpreted in different ways. Why did some people think the world was going to end in the year 2000? Why do others think it's going to end in a rapture sometime soon? Will they be disappointed if this doesn't happen? How many prophecies are made which do not come to pass, and which are subsequently forgotten?

Jeanie: Actually if you really want to go there I can name prophecy after prophecy which has come to pass and can do it only using the Bible except that we also believe in modern day revelation/prophesy! (So where I come from there are even more). The more modern ones are easier to interpret. For instance, Joseph Smith prophesied the Civil War among others as well as the two main parties we have now - by name. He also said a new one would form due to contentions between the two (I'd have to find it to get the word for word) which is happening. Can anyone say Libertarian?

As far as Y2K, that was based on coming to the end of the 6000 year period, but the calendar years are off. Even in the Book of Mormon Christ's birth was predicted and the believers were scoffed at. Literally to the day they were going to destroy the believers but the sigh of his coming (over here) came to pass. Night did not come.. A whole night and day passed without night. There was no doubt a natural explanation for this just like the star... but it was predicted as a sign nonetheless. On that note - when he was crucified the earth was in great turmoil - some earth forms were flattened, mountains arose....

I know that isn't what you are getting at - but just because its about God shouldn't discount anything. Science is man-made. You're looking at things only intellectually, but your spiritual self is trying to talk to you. its still in there somewhere : )
