Hi Jeanie, yeah I agree. I think even today, in certain areas of the world (tropics), insects grow FAR bigger, and of course the environment makes a tremendous difference and the environment before the flood was definitely superior than the one we see today. We also see this corresponds with the change of our age. God reduced it and rightly so. Considering the ongoing sinful behaviours!
We deserved the flood, we deserved the inferior environment, as ultimately man brought it on himself. One can only imagine the magnificant specimens the two first created humans must have been. Created from the beginning, made in God's image, perfect in form, without sin and without the effects of sin in a world which was "good" (without death, age, suffering/illness). Yet still created with a free will. Unfortunately, one test from God in obedience was failed!
But evenso, they still obviously lived in a superior environment. They no longer lived forever, being excluded from the "garden of Eden", but the environment still favoured an extraordinary long life (well by our standards it was) and of course, superior growth of all living things (including animals/insects/trees). The deterioration is seen in the bible as the ages of people slowly but surely begin to decline and after the flood there was a dramatic reduction.
To my mind, we are pigmies with short lives compared to them. But thankfully the time of renewal is coming and something we should all look forward to! It's interesting, but there are some surprising links between religions around the world that seem to add up regardless of the differences. As you may know, there are over 250 "stories" of the great worldwide flood in all the different cultures around the world that tell the story, so similar, that it appears we all do indeed come from the same family that survived that flood and so it was passed down through into each culture, however the story may "differ" in certain aspects, it appears to speak of the same event, even down to the family and the ark/boat. That may go for many other "so-called stories" too. Oral history is very much something to be taken notice of if there are such parallels like this, even with people who have never seen the bible.
