I posted a few weeks ago saying that algin was helping me with mercury detox and that I was some better. I had the last of my amalgams removed last January and though I was better, I was hoping for more improvement than I had had. My son-in-law's aunt complained of severe pain to me in her arms, legs, lower back, and shoulders. I told her I had that to. I thought it was my firbromyalgia but then I remembered her telling me she is taking Fosamax.
I went off HRT 4 years ago and the doctor just insisted I should do something to protect my bones as I am very light built and petite and had osteopenia.
I started looking up long term side effects of Fosamax this weekend and found out I had every bad one in the book. The aunt did to. I thought all of my problems were mercury related but now I think a lot of the pain in my muscles and joints may be due to the Fosamax. I have been taking this s--- for 4 years. I do not know why I never checked into it before. I am never going to take another Fosamax pill again. From what I have read it takes weeks if ever for the symptoms to subside. I will keep you posted on how I do. Fosamax nearly killed my neighbor. It is poison! I was stupid to fall for the doctor's endorsement. I will just try calcium and exercise from now on. Cross your fingers I get better.

Good for you for getting off the fosamax! My mother was put on that and calcium supplements for years. She stopped the fosamax when she started having problems with her esophagus, but continued to take the calcium. Her bone density wasn't improving, so the Dr. told her to take Tums! What an idiot. The Dr.s never consider that you can't assimulate calcium supplements if you are deficient in magnesium and the supplements then just get stored in the soft tissues causing you to be stiff and achey.

I finally convinced my mother to even stop taking the calcium supplements and start taking magnesium. She didn't want to tell her Dr. becuase she was afraid he would fuss at her,so I told her not to and see how her test go. She has much more flexibility now and her bone density test have not shown any more bone loss and she feels the benefits of the magnesium in other areas.

Research magnesium (a good book is "The miracle of Magnesium: by Carolyn Dean) and if you have any of the symptoms of a deficiency, DON'T take calcium supplements as that will make your mg def. even worse because your system will pull more mg out of your bones and tissues to process the calcium.

I've learned that it's best to research everything that a doctor suggests because they don't always give full information. Almost every time I've gone to see a doctor about my female problems, all they could suggest was the pill. Not only is it rather ridiculous to give someone who has a problem ovulating a drug to primarily suppress ovulation, but can have side effects. I was so not impressed. Only one doctor said the pill would be no solution.

If you had mercury problem and this problem, you must have been very sick. I hope that you get better. Keep us updated <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think it can only really be the mercury for me because it's the only thing that is "different" since I was last well. I don't smoke, don't drink, and while I do a lot of computer work, that's only been for the last ten years, and I've had my problems for 20. I only became a vegetarian 15 years ago. And there was nothing different about what I was eating or drinking before I got sick at 12. The only thing different was that I'd started having fillings and had braces and I had a general anaesthetic to have a tooth out. Those were the only things that happened to me before I went from a well and happy child to one with serious anxiety disorder and very shy.

Hi notech, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you ever want to keep from losing bone mass......Vit K is like glue for the bones.....and it's good for the body. Do a search for it on www.mercola.com I think you have to be careful which Vit K you take......but mercola can explain it much better then I can.

I believe mercury depletes calcium.....but I have no proof for this.

Calcium and magnesium should be taken at a 2:1 ratio, for instance, 600mg calcium.......should take at least 300mg magnesium. If you take too much magnesium, (without taking calcium) it can rob you of calcium......because magnesium is very, very good at getting calcium out of the bloodstream. And it's good for the heart, bowels, sleep.....tee hee....a lot of things. Calcium is best absorbed at night time.

I hope this helps,
Elaine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have to disagree with you Elaine about the calcium/magnesium facts. After all my MANY hours of research of magnesium I have found that the standard DR. numbers are twice as much calcium as magnesium, but they based this on the fact that there is twice as much calcium in bones as magnesium and not taking into account that the muscles require a lot of magnesium not to mention it is a cofactor for over 300 enzematic functions. The USA really pushes calcium supplements for osteoporosis, but yet we still have one of the highest rates for that in the world. This is starting to come out. When you read Dr.s and nutritionist , such as Ann Louise Gittleman that are into health not pills, you find this to be the case. Magnesium helps get the calcium into your bones where it belongs. It is also important for detoxification which we are all going to need a lot of!

I have found relief from certain mercury-related symptoms by adding magnesium supplements to my diet from time to time.

Hi Missy,

I?m not real sure what you are disagreeing with me about??. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Notech said, ?I will just try calcium and exercise from now on.?

I was just trying to explain to her that she needed to take magnesium also??2:1, is the ratio that most people have heard and read. I?ve tried for a long time to explain to people the importance of magnesium (I have found this difficult) they love their calcium but they don?t seem to want to take magnesium. I give them the standard 2:1 ratio, that way, if they ask their doctors, the doctor will agree (most people I?ve met won?t make a move without their doctors approval) so I start at that place?..and if they are taking calcium, I try to encourage them to take magnesium along with it.

I personally take magnesium daily but I?ll forget to take calcium and it seems that if I only take magnesium?.after a week then I feel like I?m very low on calcium. I believe that magnesium can deplete calcium because I do know that magnesium is ?the best? at removing calcium from the bloodstream??it?s better then any ?calcium channel blocker? on the market.

I also know that magnesium is good for the heart, bowels, sleep and it has many, many other good benefits. My friend?s constipation problems was totally corrected when she finally started taking magnesium??.it took me over a year of explaining about magnesium before she would even try it. I also know they tested the hearts of people who had died from sudden heart attacks and they all had one thing in common?..they all lacked any magnesium.

Okay?..I just read your post, that you posted before I posted mine, that you think people should not take calcium at all??I didn?t make the connection before. Geeeze, I have enough trouble trying to convince people to take magnesium. I?m not going to tell someone to stop taking calcium??but I will continue to encourage people to take magnesium with their calcium.

Elaine

Sorry to confuse you! I only meant that I disagreed about the amount of magnesium to calcium. I completely understand what you are saying about convincing people to even try magnesium. I've experienced the same thing and they do always come back to thank me when they finally do give it a try. You are right about magnesium being the best natural calcium channel blocker, but if I understand it all right, the magnesium isn't getting rind of the calcium (waste) but is getting it out of the blood stream and into the bones where it needs to be.

Hope this clears things up <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

At the moment I am taking magnesium (the worst one, though, oxide, but I paid a lot for the supplement, lol) and I take vit c every day. I've noticed they help a little, at least in not making me need glucosamine, which I had to take a lot of before to help muscle pains from typing.
