Hi Jeanie,
I worked out that Andy Cutler was accurate in how he described the effects created by mobilising mercury and how most natural agents work by doing this, rather than gripping onto mercury strongly enough and then using a method that would keep the process as even as possible without moving mercury around unpredictably. Which is why he developed the frequent dosing protocol. It keeps the chelating agent even in the blood stream, thereby moving mercury in the same manner.
Natural agents might be great for some, but it's the action of mercury that is the danger, so natural agents can be a problem for that reason alone. E.g. using garlic supplementation may create a severe reaction due to the high sulfur content and ability to move mercury, as can chlorella, MSM, etc. Some do wonderfully on them, others may not. It's so individual. HOwever, I believe that we do require sulfur, as mercury competes with it in the body and depletes it, just as it does with iodine and selenium, All things things I truly believe are necessary to replace. Problem is, in replacing them in too high amounts when we are very mercury toxic, it can create a massive displacing and mobilising of mercury, which can then allow mercury to migrate to more sensitive areas (possibly even the brain). So hence why many people get increased symptoms when taking these supplements or high sulfur foods etc. I would not personally use high sulfur supplements, unless you are certain you can handle even the sulfur foods like eggs, garlic, onions, leek, broccoli etc with no "too" bad reactions.
When I was very mercury toxic, I recall how sulfur would REALLY increase the symptoms and bounce the mercury around all over the place and leave me with increased crying and salivating etc. It was also painful to go through, although sure some mercury no doubt came out in the process. I even had it from consuming cabbage etc. Eggs, anything, which is why I had to be careful. As I became less toxic, I was much more tolerable of sulfur. Other mercury toxic people find sulfur to be marvellous, they thrive on it, so you really never know how you'll react. Perhaps also it's down to sensitivity to the mercury itself and how well your elimination organs are functioning. What is mobilised out and around maybe then quickly excreted by a pretty well functioning detox system. Others may not be so lucky.
I always found cutler's protocol to be the most tolerable and safe for me, but again it was not easy. It is always stressful to chelate mercury, no matter how well you do it and you can really stress yourself from doing it. Though...not doing it is not great either as the mercury stays there poisoning you.....I think diet (as JK said) is HIGHLY important to help your gut and liver (which are needed for detox) reducing high levels of yeast (which occur with mercury) and improving immunity and reducing symptoms. Avoiding sugar, wheat/gluten and yeast is paramount. Wheat is treated apparently with mercury fungicide, which is why when I used to eat, I would get almost immediately poisoning symptoms! Also the gluten acts like a glue for those who cannot digest it properly and causes toxic waste apparently. So it's a big problem for many. Sugar lowers immunity, feeds yeast and does all manner of awful things. Avoid it! Yeast can create problems too in candida, allergy reactions and more immune suppression because of it. Which in the end can feed yeast, indirectly.
Any moulds/yeasts may cause reactions, so I'd avoid them. High carb natural foods may or may not be ok, depending on how severe you have candida. I used to do just fine on limited fruit and high carb vegetable and gluten free grain intake. But nowadays I do not and have to avoid ALL high carb foods (potatoes, corn, peas, beans, grains of all kinds, fruits, etc). Also be careful of milk (due to lactose). Caffeine is a bad one too. Both intefere with mercury detox and can strain adrenals.
The best foods for me are meat, eggs, butter (as Dr Hal Huggins suggest for mercury toxic people), animal fats are actually very beneficial, whereas plant oils like canola are bad. Olive oil is great though. Coconut oil is great. Fish oil (mercury free) and flaxseed oil are also helpful. Low carb vegetables can be eaten freely, as can eggs and meat. I also have raw nuts (almonds/brazil) raw seeds (sunflower/pumpkin) and acidophilus sugar free plain yoghurt. I add my flaxseed oil to my yoghurt (about one or two teaspoons a time). Really nice.
I drink mainly herbal tea, but sometimes have black tea. I steer clear of coffee, it's a baddie! I do not have any milk either. My diet is limited, but necessary and it's the only way I can function with my ongoing chronic viral infection and immune problems. Even mercury didn't do this much to me! Though it was horrible due to the poisoning, I could still eat more freely and was stronger too and responded much better to efforts than I do these days.
Definitely work on the diet if you're not already and make sure to get plenty of proteins and animal fats, which really do help. Please read Dr Weston Price's studies if you haven't already (google it). What an eye opener! HIs diet really is excellent, I Find it faultless and also fits in with the bible diet well too. God had it right all along!
