Hyperacusis is not well understood and has hardly been investigated as to its mechanism.
Some types of H appear to come from noise injuries, but many other types can emerge from medications, closed head-brain-neck injuries, poisonings or substance abuse, and yet another type appears to be related to people who suffer from other inflammatory or chronic body illnesses, i.e., chronic fatigue, lupus, thyroid disorders, skin diseases, arthritis, etc etc so many possibilities...

And for hyperacusis the treatment of now is.....
TRT, and using pink noise is very good, and also music, fans, fountains, nature sounds....
Desensitization therapy is the treatment of now.... At this time .. it's a regaining back of lost tolerances.. And though it has helped many people improve over time.... It's not the cure...
Not everyone does improve but most can in some way... And as many other types can emerge from medications... As medications even some antibiotics.. are known or can.. damage ones ears.....
It happens...
