I had a very bad setback the past two weeks. Now I am trying to get my health to impove at least a bit so I can become semi functional again. I did 6 weeks of chelation using 50 mg ALA every 3 hours 3 days on 4 off. The last two weeks were horrible. My kness became very stiff over a week ago, and the stiffness has been finally subsiding over the past few days. I thought it might be due to the olive leaf extract, so I stopped that. I started grapefruit seed extract to replace it(I had gone off grapefruit seed extract a few weeks ago before I started the chelation). Today I took the olive leaf extract for around the first time in a week, as I feel I have annoying nasal drip today. I feel like a mess. I can't tell which supplements are helping or hurting, and how to progress. I am having muscle ache today and am wondering if it is due to candida dye off. Any thoughts about licorice root? On paper it looks good- adrenal support, detoxifier, antifungal and antimicrobial. It can raise blood pressure though, although imo my blood pressure might be a bit on the low side. I make just one cup of licorice tea a day, as I am afraid to take in too much of it.

Hi there, I can understand how you must feel. I would be careful of antifungals by the way. If you are not on a very strict diet, any yeast you may still be feeding will be killed off by antifungals in an ongoing cycle, spilling ongoing toxins into your system.
Again, as my memory is not good, I do not know the diet you're following. But I know diet is THE one to use. Antifungals are nothing more than an aid to that, but shouldn't be used until the person has been on a strict diet for many months apparently. And even then the diet should be adhered to the entire time.
I do not use antifungals because I often found they were causing too many issues with me. I think because of my immunity, there is a certain amount of stubborn yeast even with a good diet. To keep killing it with antifungals, as it comes back again will likely making me more toxic in the process. So instead, I do not feed it and use good foods/supplements to build up my immunity as much as I'm able, which is not easy when you have a chronic virus.
I would give yourself a break from chelation and antifungals and just use diet and basic supplements and then see what happens from there. This is just a suggestion and see if things begin to improve. a certain amount of yeast is always present naturally and that is even more in mercury toxicity and there maybe a reason for that. Though it is very very bad to feed that yeast further by consuming sugars in any form and gluten/wheat etc, it may not be wise to try killing it off constantly with ongoing antifungal use, when that will likely increase your toxic load as well. I can honestly only use diet.
IT's really hard to tell what's causing all the symptoms and you won't know unless you take a break from all this. It may just be mercury doing its thing, which causes ongoing set-backs, even as you are healing. It's like regression constantly. You feel one moment that you're going somewhere and then you're back again in misery. That's how it was for me. I'm not sure if that's what's happening to you though, there could be anything going on. Maybe combination of factors.
I don't know enough about Licorice tea. I do know that it's good for adrenal glands though!

I got bored of suggesting to you that so many side effects from chelating means you need to reduce the chelator dose, 50mg's is a real high dose, but I suppose I will give it one more go.
(I am curious to know why you did not reduce the dose as that is what Cutler and crew recommend. ?)
(If my repeated suggestions are annoying let me know and I will leave you in peace.)

jk98 i think basically you have gone over the top with this. Try to cut down on the ALA, going higher doesnt mean you'l get better faster, it could make you worse. Both of the ant-fungals you mention are strong, i would only take minimal doses like say 4 drops every few hrs, cut back if you feel bad. You dont say wether you are on the anti candida diet, if not then anti fungals can make you really sick. i hope this helps Dawn.

I am on a low carb diet. I am in my second week off chelation. Today I felt so desperate(cognitive problems, nasal drip, muscle ache, etc.) that I loaded up on olive leaf extract and grapefruit seed extract. I have already been on a low carb diet for a few weeks. I am starting to feel better now. Around every hour and a half today I have been taking an olive leaf capsule and washing it down with a cup of water with 12 drops of grapefruit seed extract.

As someone who has overdone it in the past many many times with supplements and other therapies I must say it sounds like you may be overdoing it. Olive leaf is very powerful and has only made symptoms worse for me in the past. It kills both good and bad bacteria and yeast from what I understand. If you are on a low carb diet you shouldn't need much olive leaf at all.
Sometimes its just best to deal with the symptoms until they pass unless what you are taking is very gentle and would not make it worse for sure.

Does olive leaf and grapefruit seed extract kill both pathogens and acidophilus and other beneficial bacteria? I have seen mixed comments about this. Some websites say they don't harm beneficial bacteria, while other websites say they do harm them. It is hard to know what to believe. I guess I need to continue to eat plain yogurt with active cultures, and not eat it soon before or soon after GSE or OLE.
I am continuing to lose weight on the low carb diet even though I am eating plenty of nuts(I guess I need plenty of calories). my weight is dowh to 165. Not bad, although I am still around 10 pounds overweight(I am a 5'7" male).

I'm not sure about GSE but I have read olive leaf kills some beneficial bacteria, but not all of them.
Something that does not harm good bacteria but will kill bad bacteria, yeasts, and viruses is coconut oil.
