Can anyone recommend a good doctor for dealing with mercury toxicity / chelation issues? I like my current doc, but he is not taking mercury seriously as a potential cause of my various symptoms (constant headaches, numbness and tingling in face, brain fog, fatigue, muscle twitching, abdominal bloating, can't tolerate alcohol or caffeine, etc.). I'd appreciate any recommendations. I live in Chicago, but would be willing to travel almost anywhere in the US if there is a doc who can get results. Thanks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/homer.png" alt="" />

Hi William, I hope this might help you in your search for a doctor involved in this area. Complementary holistic physicians http://www.holisticdentalnetwork.com/physicians.phpAlso, just in case you may not be aware. Many people suffering mercury poisoning (or other toxic illness) can suffer from overgrowth of yeast in their body (candida it is called), this can create many many distressing symptoms and simply add to your toxic load and may even, in some cases, cause most of the symptoms, even though mercury can be the underlying problem and reason candida occured in the first place. If you're not already, I would really encourage you to read about this condition and again, if you're not already, I cannot recommend enough to go on a candida diet by excluding ALL sugar, wheat/gluten, yeast etc. To remove the source of it's survival and then reduce the yeast, reduce toxic load, and improve immunity and ability to detox (and detox includes mercury as well). Improves gut and liver (needed for detox).

Thanks, I just got my candida test result and it was "0.5 au" . . . the reference range was given as up to 0.9 au. I haven't yet discussed it with my doc, so I don't know what this really means. Does anyone know?

Hi, as far as I know, tests for candida are not overly accurate. Many people with very bad yeast problems (me included) can have tests that show there is nothing much wrong. Similar to mercury. You can show low mercury and still be severely poisoned. Many reasons for this.
I would not bet on any test a doctor gives, I've been there and I wound up not bothering. The best way to test and check for yeast is looking at a symptom profile of candida symptoms and eliminating all sugars/wheat/gluten and high carb foods from your diet and testing reactions. If you have a yeast problem, your symptoms will likely get worse temporarily as the excessive yeast begins to die off (reduce). They literally starve to death because what they need to keep flourishing is being denied.
You will always have a certain amount of yeast in your body and that's normal, but in conditions like ours, the immune system is often unable to keep this yeast in check. The additons of sugars etc just compound the problem and feed this already overgrown yeast and cause it to wreck havoc.
If you go on such a diet, you might need to prepare yourself for the intitial worsening/detox period. But it will be worth it. It can take a few weeks to improve and gain control over yeast (or further control).
