No not a picture of one on your arm or wherever of a tooth with silver amalgam in it (he he), but a discoloration of the gum from amalgam particles.

I convinced my mother to getting her fillings replaced and the dentist said she has a couple of these tattoos. I had never heard of this before. I don't know how dangerous they are but she was advised to see a orthodontist to have it biopsied. Does anyone here have them? I sure hope it's not a big problem.

Biopsied? Are they examining it to see if it's mercury? Yes I had an amalgam tattoo around the bottom of my last rear molar. I asked my dentist what it was years ago and she said that it was just a local reaction to my crown. This tooth had a root canal in it. When I went to see my biological dentist, he said that it could be an allergy to crown material or it could be mercury in the gums. The root canal may have even been sealed with mercury! That is why I decided to remove that root canal tooth (which I am sort of regretting). He cut out as much of the tattoo as he could. There was the tiniest bit of discoloration left, but it seems to have pretty much gone away since the surgery. And I am getting better. I read that you could sprinkle chlorella on it along with chelation to draw the mercury out. I didn't try it though as it seems to be resolving on it's own. Maybe it is being pulled out of the gums with DMPS which I am using.

Amalgam tattoo’s are mercury in the gum. If you go to the trouble of replacing your amalgams and want to chelate…you will need to have the tattoo's cut out.

 >The last of my amalgam fillings is gone as of today, 11 big whoppers.
>I have a mercury tattoo and it won't be till August that an oral surgeon
>will see me and I really would like to start chelation in, uh, 4 days.
>Could I start anyway?

There are 3 ways to say this. NO, NO and NO :-)

>It's such a small amount of amalgam in my tissue; which is better, waiting
>for the consultation etc. and removal or starting in 4 days with chelation,
>following the >Cutler approach, of course. Would I gain more by waiting
>or lose time by waiting.

You will hurt yourself for sure. There is no point in doing this.

You can lower the mercury released by the removal by sweating lots now and
until you see the surgeon. Make sure you replace your electrolytes when you
do this.

quote; The amalgam tattoo is a benign discoloration of the mouth membrane resulting from amalgam particles falling into small, open wounds created during dental treatment or by trauma shortly after a dental treatment, when small, fresh amalgam particles still cling to the mucosa. Foreign particles may be large enough to be seen on x-rays and occasionally the tattoo is seen to expand over time as inflammatory cells beneath the membrane try to "clean up" the area. unquote

That search took 5 minutes...there are plenty more posts about it.

Mercury is mercury; if it’s in your gums or your teeth ….it needs removing prior to chelation otherwise the chelators will pull the mercury from the tattoo around your body.

hey guys, thanks for sharing. Not sure what my mom wants to do about the tattooing but I think she should be commended for her common sense concerning the amalgams. It didn't take much for me to convince her to have her amalgams replaced. Her memory has been getting very bad withing the last 5 or so years. So I'm hoping that this will help her. It really means so much to me to be able to assist my mother in her amalgam replacement. She had the first few done today and I feel very grateful that she didn't have any broken tooth or complications.
