Hi Benza. You will need to ask your dentist what he used. There are many different types of white fillings, all made with different ingredients. Even if it was placed a long time ago your dentist should have a note of it.

He's full of it. He should easily be able to tell you the names of the materials he used in your teeth with no issue whatsoever. In fact, he's got a duty to do that and you can definitely lay down the law . You are the patient, you've paid to have them put in, you have a right to know what was put in. You're not asking for an entire list of ingredients, you just want to know the name of the material and the company. Wow, what a moron, but you do get dentists like this. I had one on email from Australia (reputable biologic dentist) who couldn't even give me a straight answer. I asked him what the names of the dental materials he was using so I could check them on my serum test list to see if they were compatible and I've never seen dodging like it. he would not tell me and kept saying "I'll just test you myself with the ones we have" and I said "That's fine, you can do that, but I would like to check them on the test I have here too" and he wouldn't answer me. Yet other dentists I emailed were fine, straight up and told me the name and everything.
It sounds like the materials you got may have been glass ionomers, rather than just "plastic composites". Some people choose them over straight composites and vice versa. Depends on individual sensitivity. They are all white fillings, but there is a difference between them. I think glass ionomers do contain some "metal salts" (which is I think is part of the pigment). ALL dental materials contain some metals in them. There is no such thing as a metal free dental material, even dentures etc. Glass ionomers I think may contain more than general composites though, but again it really is a case of personal sensitivity. Those who have a plastic sensitivity maybe ok with glass ionomers more than composites.

She's right. If you ask him what the brand name of the composite filling is he is legally obliged to tell you, not vice versa. You can look up the MSDS for the brand name and get the ingredients yourself. You do not have to walk around with a mystery in your mouth for the rest of your life. Ask him if he wants your attorney to call and ask the question. I had to write letters and personally drop them on the desk of a previous dentist to get information from him about the work done in my mouth. such a pain, completely uncalled for.
.. and you're both right, what a moron. i'll chime in too because I have met lots and lots of moron dentists. It might a requirement of the trade there are so many.
Moron.
