I really REALLY believe that GPs are dangerous, and particularly ignorant when it comes to treating thyroid. My doctor, who put me on T4 only meds (before I knew anything about anything) caused my subsequent adrenal crash, from which my adrenals have never recovered. OK they were weak anyway, but T4 meds were the coup de grace. Thanks doc <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif" alt="" /> ...

I firmly believe the best thing to do with thyroid matters is to forget about the GP, except may be for tests, smile politely when he says your results are normal (they always are, no matter what state you're in), read stopthethyroidmadness and treat yourself. You CANNOT rely on a doctor to get this right. Even my highly knowledgeable hormone specialist who treats thryoid / adrenals says 'you are your own best doctor'. I think that is the best thing a doctor can say to his patient.
