Hi All, Now that I know now that my adrenals are in desperate need of repair I am also taking my early morning temperature before I get outta bed to check my thyroid level. My ND suggested it and honestly I have been suspicious of that for years cause of all the symptoms I have. But of course my regular DR. did a blood test and that was "normal" .Im talking depression, no sex drive, hair falling out, get cold and hot VERY easy, and the list goes on. My temps I have taken and they are as follows: 97.8, 97.6, 97.7, 97.8, 97.6. My question now is does that qualify for being hypo or low thyroid? It may be awhile before I can talk to my ND about this. But I just don't want him to say its normal when I am pretty darn sure I am. I checked 21 outta 25 of the signs and symptoms and I am sooo tired of being tired and unmotivated! I just want to fix the problem as naturally as possible. If it is considered low thyroid, there are many different options. Theres that Armour stuff, vitamin and herbal formulas, bovine or extracts, and of course synthetic thyroid meds which Im not so crazy about. And if I try one of the first three options does anybody know how long it takes to get some relief? I so appreciate the help and feedback. Thanks, Diane

Hi Diane For me low termperature is ONE symptom of hypothyroidism but it is not definitive. That said, 97.6 is definitely on the lowest limit of the normal range (97.6 - 98.6) for first thing in the morning, and could easily be higher. If you have the other symptoms, then I would say hypothyroidism is almost a certainty. Of course blood tests are normal - the TSH test leaves most undiagnosed and untreated. Did you get Free T4 and Free T3 levels done? Your best bet is to get over to http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ to learn more about hypothyroidism and adrenals before you do anything. Inform yourself, then treat yourself. You can't rely on a doctor to do it intelligently unfortunately. Best of luck Nicola

Hi Diane, Most doctors unfortunately know little about thyroid disorders and even less about adrenal problems. If your current doctor won't take you seriously here is a link which may help you to find a good doctor. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/how-to-find-a-good-doc/ the site in general is quite good and worth reading. If you do have low thyroid and adrenal issues you will need to support your adrenals before starting on any thyroid treatment otherwise you can make adrenal issues worse. Unfortunately I'm not too clued up on thyroid treatments other than Armour so I can't help you there. I hope you find some relief soon! Cheers, Cara

Hi Diane Those temps are fairly stable, as they only vary by 0.2 of a degree per day. That’s good. I was led to believe not varying by more the 0.2 deg is considered ok. I would say your morning basel temps mean that your adrenals are ok. Why ok? Ok because they are steady and stable (-ish). They are however low. Low temps indicate thyroid trouble. So you need to investigate support for your thyroid. Adrenals always get treated first (or together with thyroids) but since your adrenals are steady and stable….you may go ahead and get some thyroid supports. You should read the websites already suggested. Read as much as possible as this is the best way to help yourself. To verify yourself that what I have told you, read this link……. http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.aspinfact, that whole website is really a good place to start learning. You can print out the blank graph and plot your temps if you wish…..Dr.Rind uses 3 temps in the day averaged…but you can use your bsael temp on the graph too. I have been taking my morning basel temps for a couple of weeks…they look like this: 96.7 96.8 96.5 96.7 96.6 97.2 96.8 97.2 96.8 96.4 97.5 96.8 97.2 As u can see, my temps are very far from being stable. (This was caused by my stopping my supplements.) Now I have restarted my supplements they have started calming down. This is a pic of my graph from a couple of months ago….they are well worth doing. As you introduce a support/supplement you can see if it has any effect of your temp. <img src="http://herballure.com/ForumExtras/Images/dbtzgxatyw.jpg"> In fact, this was when I first started adrenal support. You can see the first couple of weeks the very jagged graph, then as I introduced specific supplements the temps became less jagged which shows the supplements I took worked......a bit. The sharp falls in temp where when I started chelation and had some difficult days learning what dosage and timings suited me for chelation. I had to reduce my dose and shorten the timings.
