Hi Sandra.

I'm mercury and copper poisoned and have spent a great deal of time researching for a safe and effective chelation method. I decided to pass on EDTA and DMPS and tried Cutlers protocol, both high and very low doses of ALA and DMSA. I haveto disagree that this method is "very safe" and "people shouldn't be afraid of it". Many mercury poisoned people, such as myself, are so sick and damaged by metals that there are serious problems with the elimination organs; liver, kidneys, digestive tract and skin. Using an aggressive chemical chelator such as DMSA can cause extensive damage to already weakened organs.

DMSA can cause lowered kidney creatinine clearance, proteinuria, kidney enzyme elevations, autoimmune antibodies and as you mentioned, neutroperia. DMSA also feeds candida and can create digestive disturbances. It, unfortunately, chelates minerals such as magnesium, chromium, zinc, and managense.

ALA is very gut irritating, feeds candida, greatly affects blood sugar levels and prevents copper detoxing. Although ALA has fewer side-effects it, unfortunately, has to be combined with DMSA as it mobilizes but doesn't bind with mercury.

Each time I tried a chelation round, I felt more weakend than pre-treatment and knew it wasn't simply a herxheimer reaction. I then made the decition to support my own detox pathways by upping my glutathione levels. This is working well (more energy, less brain-fog)

You are very fortunate that you can tolerate such high doses of both ALA and DMSA and seeing results so soon. But please understand that there are less fortunate mercury poisoned people out there who could end up in hospital. None of the chemical chelators are "very safe".
