For so many years, decades even, I have walked around with a bit of guilt concerning things the church has done in the past... things like burning witches at the stake etc. But you know, suddenly, I feel immensely relieved of that guilt. Aside from all those who may have been wrongly accused and fell to the politics of the day rather than actual justice.. but from this perspective today at this moment it's actually not difficult for me to understand, finally truley understand, how a small community, in an unsure time, would feel the need to eliminate from it's midst, deviant, lying, unrepenting, hateful and accusing souls of murderous pasts and possible futures. It is what any reasonable, caring, loving parent would do to try to secure the future of their own childen in an unsure time. It is, from this perspective today, at this moment, a wholly reasonable and acceptable solution, perhaps the only solution available to a people trying to somehow assure their own survival in an unsure time.
