Had another follow up with my doctor. He ran some specialized tests in accordance with more things mercury can do. As you all know, I've been pretty ill. He got my results and told me to cut wheat out of my diet and see what happens. I CANNOT emphasize enough what this has done for me. Within three days of cutting out wheat, I feel like a new person. I have literally come back to life. My boyfriend can't believe it. Before I couldn't do much of anything due to the chronic fatigue. Now I'm back to doing lots of housework. My doctor said that mercury can cause many food sensitivities, especially to wheat. Eliminating wheat from my diet has been short of miraculous for me. Meanwhile, I just finished my third chelation campaign with DMSA and ALA. I am tolerating the chelation well. My doctor says I will have to chelate for 2 years given my body burden of mercury. I am happy to share my good news with all of you. Apparently there are millions of people sensitive to the gluten in wheat and don't even know it. They suffer from an array of symptoms and doctors never get to the bottom of it. I guess wheat is fairly new in the food chain, especially for those of us whose ancestors were hunter/gatherers. I have come to realize that wheat is like poison to me.

It is nice to hear that your health has improved so much and that you have more energy. Is mercury in your body the basic cause of the wheat intolerance, or are you just one of those people who should not consume wheat even if you have no mercury or other serious toxicity? Do you think you will be able to eat wheat etc. after you are detoxified of mercury?
I find this an interesting subject, and I guess others would disagree with my point of view, but I suspect that we should all be able to eat moderate quantities of whatever we want, any food group at all, if our bodies are strong and not filled with poisons. I think that our racial heritage is irrelevant. Note that I said "moderate" consumption.
Best of luck. You are on the way.

Thanks Carla, I do believe that it's the mecury poisoning that causes the food sensitivities/intolerances. My research indicates that this is so. Andrew Cutler talks about all of this in his book. I do hope I'll be able to eat wheat again after I'm recovered. However, Dr. Peter D'Adamo did write a book called "eat write for your type" where he outlines what foods people of certain blood types should avoid. Then again, there is Celiac Disease in which people have a total intolerance to the gluten in wheat and can become very very ill if they continue eating it. This is pretty prevalent among people of all backgrounds.

Mercury?by causing mutations in intestinal bacteria?causes holes in the lining of the colon. This, in turn, causes food allergies. This is not the only cause of food allergies, however.
Because you have mercury toxicity AND you have gluten sensitivity, there is a chance that you will be able to have wheat again in the future. Hard to say for sure, though.
Best of luck and congratulations on your success.
